It’s sort of hard to define myself outside of being a mother. My son is so much of my identity. He’s 50% Black, but only because his father is half Black and I’m half Black as well. He’s taught me so much about what it is to love thy neighbor as thyself. I’m a daughter, trying to maintain my mother’s traditional customs and honor my father’s African American ancestry. I’m a girlfriend, being supportive of my man as he comes to terms with who he is. I’m a woman, sensual, head-strong, and trying to survive as a woman of many colors.
