I studied music at Birmingham University where i gained a B Mus Hons degree and then started working at the BBC as a Studio Manager which proved to be a great basis for an understanding of recording and the music business.
I'm one of the founding members of Shakatak, a band that was part of the Brit-Funk scene in the UK in the early 80's.
Check out our website www.shakatak.com for all the history etc. and also my site www.billsharpe.com for my history/discography. You can also download individual songs or albums on my website or go to www.billsharpeshop.com.
I also recorded with Gary Numan under the name "Sharpe and Numan" and we had some success in the mid-late 80's.
I'm still touring the world with the band and enjoying playing as much as ever , if not more.
I've recently been recording with Don Grusin, the great american jazz pianist and we have a new project in the pipeline as i write this.
As for Shakatak, we have a new album out this march on JVC called "Emotionally Blue" so look out for that.
I am currently working on a new album with pianist/producer Don Grusin, and we're planning on doing some shows in Indonesia and Japan at the end of November.
I've just added a track from a CD that's been released by the band "Tracks". This band featured myself,Roger Odell,Keith Winter and various top bass players including Trevor Horn. It was recorded at the BBC Maida Vale studios between 1979-1980 and is musically jazz/fusion based. This band was also one of the precursors to Shakatak and introduced me to Roger and Keith. For those of you who might be interested my publisher,Music Sales, have just put out a sheet music book of 20 Shakatak songs including all the hits and more. It's called "Best of Shakatak" and if you google it you'll find out where you can order from if you're interested. Have a very Happy Christmas and a great 2008 to all.
