I am here for Friends

About Me

I've been all over the world, lived in different places, held all kinds of jobs, met a million different people, done a million different things - and I finally know that I'm exactly where I want to be. The study of medicine is a long and arduous path, requiring significant personal sacrifice. Yet nothing is more rewarding than knowing that I am well on my way towards accomplishing my goal. It only gets more difficult from here, but I welcome the challenge.Things I love: Michigan football. Immunology. Kittens. Identifying cells in blood smears. Fresh powder and open backcountry at Whistler/Blackcomb in January. GMail messenger. Guts. Bryon's perverted comments. Eddie's funny noises. Nicolas's sneeze. Saba's laugh (which I can hear through two sets of closed doors and all the way down the hall). Cracking up for 3 days straight about gastrulation and Sideshow Bob. The Big House on gameday. Alki Beach on a sunny afternoon. AVIs. Dr. Merchanthaler when he attempts to say "blood," "wavy," or "hunch." Bryon attempting to imitate Dr. Merchanthaler saying "blood," "wavy," or "hunch." Good music. Ketel One. Battanis & dive bars (preferably the two combined). Dr. Rees's accent. The umbilicus. Being Josh's "Princess". Things I hate: Ohio State. Cadaver lab. Exams. Studying when I'd rather be out with my friends. Homelessness. Sickness. Suffering. Stupid people. Lazy people. People who think they are better/entitled to more than other people. Baltimore City. Baltimore City drivers. Apple pie. Massive thoracic cavity infections. Emptying the colon. Diverticulitis. Onions. Cleaning my house. To sum up 28 years of life experience in 1 paragraph is impossible, so if you really care that much, send me a frickin email. Otherwise, the short-and-sweet version: Born in DC. Raised in MD. Ann Arbor for college. Seattle for 3 years to pursue gene therapy research at UW. Back to MD for grad school at Georgetown. Now I'm in Baltimore attending medical school.Notice a trend? I can't seem to get away from this God forsaken state.Anyway, on a typical day, you can probably find me at my (leaky) house, lamenting the sucking vortex that is home ownership. Or at the PODS in the medical school, sleeping on my desk. Or possibly the Cowley Shock-Trauma Center, where I am most likely to be found the morning after an exam having several liters of normal saline pumped into my bloodstream in an attempt to counteract the alcohol overdose. I have absolutely no idea what I want to be when I grow up. Specialties I'm actively considering include Infectious Disease, Geriatrics (seriously! stop laughing), General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Anesthesiology, Vascular Surgery, and Emergency Medicine.I will ultimately base my decision on this useless test: The medical specialty for you is.... Cardiology Cardiology is the best of all specialties. As a cardiologist, you'll be sure to profit from the sharp increase in obesity. You'll open at clinic across the street from a McDonalds and retire a billionaire. To find out what specialty best fits your unique personality, go to: What Medical Specialty Is For You?This is apparently the kind of person that I am:

My Interests

Spending time with the people I love, summer, not studying, learning how to be a doctor, volunteering with Palliative Care, working at Union Memorial Hospital, my ICM group and Dr. Ferguson, shadowing Dr. Campbell and my mentors, skiing, hiking, camping, running, swimming, whitewater, horseback riding, chillin at the beach, hanging out with friends, dancing, anything outdoors, backpacking, travel, sleeping in, sunggling.

I'd like to meet:

Cool, interesting people who like fun. And guts. And don't mind being around me when I smell like formaldehyde.
