Combine poppy island beats with flowing costal bass lines, and you have Anna's Best Friend.
ABF formed October 31st, 2006, just outside of Dorchester, Ontario. In the break-up of Dorchester-based pop-punk band, Off Topic, guitarist, Matt Harber, and drummer, Simon Thorel, found their true calling, and formed with their friend, Derrick "Red Cap" Wallace, a reggae force, almost completely forgotten to their stomping grounds.
After a few weeks of warming up to eachother, getting to know the musical stylings of one another, they got right to work, writing more and more quality material, but in order to get the complexity of the songs they wanted, they would need another guitarist, to be able to play all guitar lines live, as not to take away from live performance. So they brought friend, Colin Finlay out to a practice, just to throw some songs around, and after learning all songs they had to offer in one practice, Colin was looking up to be a potential member. He came out to the next practice, and as well as amazing energy, he also possessed the songwriting skills to help add to the momentum of their creativity. So, without second guessing themselves, the band invited him into the band, to which he gladly accepted, completing the island sound.
Finding inspiration from all corners of their musical palette, Anna's Best Friend draws their style from such bands as Bedouin Soundclash, Great Big Sea, The Specials, Toots & The Maytals, and many others. They've managed to create a sound so familiar to your ears, but yet so unique it'll keep you wanting each and every beat over and over.
