The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. It has pioneered integrated, large-scale, low-cost, gender-focused rural development strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies are based on three principles:

(1) People, when mobilized and empowered, can be the primary authors of their own development

(2) Women are at the centre of the development process and must be empowered as key change agents;

(3) Basic needs can be met on sustainable basis with a minimum of external inputs.

THP mobilizes clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income. The strategy is based on developing the leadership and management capabilities of the community to establish and operate these programs themselves in close collaboration with local government.

THP works in more than 20,000 villages across 13 countries of South Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America making an impact in the lives of 22 million people.
