2007 was nothing short of remarkable for the four-piece instrumental electronica group known as Somasphere. Formed in late 2006, the band quickly became known in Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding areas for energetic live shows that combine the dance floor sensibilities of DJ culture with the performance capabilities of rock music. This unique approach resulted in a level of exposure that far exceeds that of many groups new to the live music scene. By the end of summer 2007, Somasphere had shared the stage with some of the most innovative electronic acts in the country, including Pnuma Trio, Bassnectar, EOTO and DJ Logic. These performances inspired the group to coordinate musical events on a larger scale. In September, Somasphere planned and performed in their very own music festival known as NEXUS in Lincoln's Haymarket district. This celebration of culture energized and exposed local music, art and vending, and raised money for the Lincoln Food Bank. Following the success of NEXUS, Somasphere took part in events such as Lincoln Calling and Thanksgrooving before a one-year anniversary concert at Bodega's Alley in Downtown Lincoln. Building on these unique experiences, the group began 2008 with two exciting developments. First, Somasphere earned a position at the Wakarusa Music Festival in Lawrence, KS in a competition known as the Waka Winter Classic. Second, the band was privileged to appear at Omaha's Sokol Underground following a Sound Tribe Sector Nine performance. Somasphere is currently producing an EP and plans to expand their fan base with live shows across the country.
