Pete Carney and ORANGE ALERT

Jazz Groove

About Me

"Very funky stuff isn't it sir"- BBC Radio"Orange Alert is a rare record that is fun to listen to, and interesting to think about." - Fly Magazine, UK"Pete Carney's Orange Alert has been dubbed acid jazz but don't let that fool you. Sure there's sampling and scratching and the occasional trippy instrumental departure, but Orange Alert is more direct than you might think. The group even veers into straight-up funk now and then amidst the pleasant experimentation and causal chilled-out grooves." -Frank De Blase, CITY MagazineORANGE ALERT HITS 2006 Jazz Aberdeen Festival, Scotland 2006 BBC Radio 2006 Awarded Cultural Exchange Grant with Erik Truffaz 2006 Jazz In The Park Festival, Milwaukee 2006 Chicago Cultural Center Performance 2006 The Halo, London March 14,15 2005 Rochester International Jazz Festival 2005 Jeff Fest 2006 Crown Fountain Art Festival 2006 Jazz in the Park Festival, MilwaukeeLive Performance on ABC TV, New York "Pete Carney brings plenty of edge!" - Rochester Chronicle and Democrat Cultural Grant Award 2005 City of Chicago "Night Vision is an acid jazz gem"?All About JazzHip-Hop beats, Blue Note Horns, House Bass, South Side Drums, and West Side turntables take listeners and dancers into an Orange Alert music event. Pete Carney's music is a head on collision between jazz and the underground sound of Chicago.Orange Alert brings the DJ generation into jazz playing analog bop over downtown grooves. In concert, this Nu jazz warehouse party from the Midwest requires serious listening and mad dancing.Pete Carney welds diverse styles and foreign elements together in his music, creating a new urban sound that extends the traditional perception of Jazz. As a hybrid jazz artist, Pete Carney brings a young generation into Jazz by incorporating new beats from Hip Hop, House, and Nu Soul in the DJ generation. Using urban grooves and a Coltrane philosophy, ORANGE ALERT welcomes a dance floor generation that is often unplugged from Jazz.Carney got his first break at a session in Memphis when Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Little Milton heard him and hired him to go on the road. Little Milton said later "Pete's the best sax player I've had in my band since David Sanborn left 30 years ago." Since then, Pete has gone on to play with the New World Symphony, Tito Puente, Louie Bellson, Tyrone Davis, Sir Mack, Ko Ko Taylor, Arturo Sandoval, and directed the horn section for Grammy winner Kirk Franklin.ORANGE ALERT was premiered for the opening of Millennium Park three years ago. In the last year, Pete has opened for Aretha Franklin, B.B King and performed on National Public Radio, BBC, Radio Italia, Radio Buenos Aires, "This is Jazz," "Electro-Lounge," and on Swiss Radio with Chicago's best #1 R&B ensemble Platinum.
