No matter how much I describe myself here, you will never know all about me from this page. I am...Laurie. I am a graphic designer by day, celtic musician by night... and I do fit the fiesty, passionate stereotype of a red-headed Irish lass, temper and all. My passions motivate my life and I have several: Music first and foremost... Art (I'm a fantasy illustrator when I have time), Camping (yes, I'd probably live in a tent all year if the Michigan weather was milder in winter, gardening, Cooking (hopefully anyone who has ever stayed over and had biscuits and gravy will attest). Reading, poetry etc... My current baby is my band, Belfast Gin. I'm the ring leader and vocalist, along with the hopeful starting of yet another side project, the more acoustic Pint for Pint... So obviously, I like to keep myself busy...

My Interests

Mytastes are all over the map. Music-ALL kinds, see below. I read voraciously, and I love to learn new crafts. I sing, I draw, write poetry, songs, etc.., I dabble in portraiture photography, I brew beer & cordials. I cook, garden, sew, make soap, candles, jewelry and just about anything else I can figure out. Spirituality (a little known fact: I recently became an ordained minister last year- I can actually marry 'em and bury 'em). I also camp, fish, ride horses, blacksmith; Ive been known to climb trees for no particular reasons and yes, I can start a fire with flint and steel. Pretty much anything I butterfly my mind into. If you stop doing, stop thinking- you're dead... and dammit, I'm not dead yet! So.... Let's get moving...

I'd like to meet:

People with similar interests... The interesting, quirky freaks and geeks. Now, as far as a love interest is concerned? I'm looking for that one real thing. Similar interests, someone who will treat me as they want to be treated; someone who's not afraid of the possibility of losing their heart to me... No cheaters, no liars need apply... Basically a nice guy with similar interests, a confident or contemplative outlook on life, a bit of a romantic with a wicked sense of humor, a kind face, intense eyes, a rogue's smile and someone who's equally aggressive and open minded in trying an adventure with a fiesty redhead.... the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes "Awww!"

Music:

All kinds of music. Big on Celtic of course, Folk, Swing, Blues, Funk, Bluegrass, Indie, Rock, Dance, Classical, Jazz, .... you name it, I probably like it... The only exceptions are hard core rap and twang country.. My current favorites? Tori Amos, Peter Case, Jeff Buckley, Nat King Cole, Benny Goodman, Dar Williams, Nina Simone, Norah Jones, A man called E (the Eels), Damien Rice, Ryan Adams, Corina Round, Evanescence, Portishead, Ani DiFranco, Bonnie Raitt, Jonny Lang, Muddy Waters, Allison Krause, Lucy Kaplansky, Gillian Welch, Pat Metheny, Bela Fleck, Gaelic Storm, Enter the Haggis, Solas, Niamh Parsons, Connie Dover, June Tabor, The Pogues, Dougie McLean, Andy Stewart, Great Big Sea and Glengarry Bhoys. I will always listen to something once...

Movies:

Let's see... I have movies that run hardcore hopeless romantic: Casablanca, Somewhere in Time, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Amelie and Last of the Mohicans... then there's the Cult section: Holy Grail, the Princess Bride and the Dark Crystal... While I also own oddities like The Secretary, Practical Magic,Chocolat, Army of Darkness, Office Space, Dead Poet's Society and foreigns like Jean de Florette, Manon des Sources, Like Water for Chocolate and Babette's Feast. I also have an obscure anime collection- StarBlazers, Vampire Hunter D, The Lain series and Grave of the Fireflies.. I haven't bought any new movies lately, and I know I need to, so suggestions are welcome.

Television:

I really haven't gotten a chance to watch tv much lately... I suppose when I do get the chance, I catch Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations on the travel channel. I catch the crack that is the Food Network, Comedy Central, various programs on Sci Fi, The History channel and some do it yourselfers... I think I've had the tv on maybe twice a week in the last couple of months? I've been more into playing music and various projects about the house...

Books:

Magazines: I am also addicted to cooking magazines: Saveur, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, etc... (Damn foodies...)
