Rapper/Songwriter Cardan, born Pierre Jones, hails from Harlem, NY. A visionary with a talent for creating energetic music while honoring the art of lyricism, Cardan brings a refreshing air to hip-hop. With a style of his own, Cardan is ready for his turn on the mic.
Cardan was raised in a single parent household by his teenage mother. Growing up in Harlem exposed him to the many dangers of the ghetto including crime, drugs and murder; Cardan was only 8 years old when he lost his best friend, Donnell Porter, the infamous Rich Porters little brother when he was kidnapped and killed. This dramatic turn of events was devastating for Cardan, he turned to music and writing as his only forms of solace.
A master in the art of storytelling, Cardan began honing his skills with the pen writing short stories and poems. Soon after, his radio was blasting the sounds of LL Cool J, Rakim and Big Daddy Kane and Cardan would pick up the mic for the first time. Rapping in school and on the block, Cardan quickly made a name for himself and was noticed by multi-platinum recording artist Mase who immediately recognized his talent and began grooming him for a career as a recording artist. After appearing on numerous mix tapes, Cardan was signed by Penalty Records at the tender age of 15. He recorded an album with music from the record featured on two motion picture movie soundtracks, Ride and The Black Mask. Cardan collaboratedwith Jermaine Dupri for his first single Jam On It off of the Ride soundtrack, but Penalty Records eventually fell into money problems and never released Cardans album.
As Cardan approached 16, Mase handpicked him to be a member of his group Harlem World. Before the release of the album, Cardan and Mase had a falling out and Cardan left the group. Cardans mother passed away shortly after and he was left to fend for himself. Still a minor, he moved into an apartment with his friend in the Bronx. Having just lost his mother and dealing with the consequences of leaving the group and one of the most successful and influential artists at the time, Cardan became disenchanted with the politics of the music industry.
After taking a break, Cardan jumped back into the music scene and began writing songs for some of the biggest rappers in the game including multi-platinum artists such as Nelly, Mase, Diddy, Lil Kim, Bow Wow and Nick Cannon, among many others. Cardan became one of the top songwriters in his genre and was in high demand. He garnered the attention of Big John and secured a publishing deal with powerhouse EMI. Cardan, flying high off his writing success, jumped back on the mic and made memorable feature appearances on the St. Lunatics, Free City, Jim Jones, Harlem: Diary of a Summer, Mases, Welcome Back and Murphy Lees, Murphys Law as well as numerous mixtape features including DJ Clue, DJ Absolut and Kay Slay.
With his career back on track, Cardan would suffer a life changing experience. In the summer of 2005, Cardan was shot 3 times, once in the stomach, in the right hand and in his left heal with a 45-caliber gun. His stomach injuries were life threatening and Cardan would endure 6 hours of surgery, over 2 weeks in the intensive care unit AT Harlem Hospital and 75 staples in his stomach.
With this now past him, Cardan is working on recording his new mixtape and in the process of scoring his new record deal. With his limitless charisma and powerful lyrical skills, Cardan is equipped for his chance to shine.
