I never lose sight of the fact that just BEING is fun."~ Katharine Hepburn

About Me

"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." ~ Coco Chanel
To quote Eleanor Roosevelt, "The purpose of life is to LIVE it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience."
Things that motivate me range from the simple, like a great song, to the complex, like a challenging novel. I see the glass as half-full, never half-empty, and I take life in stride. When things don't go as planned, I find a way to rise above it and find the good in the bad. The happy in the sad. As basic as it sounds, I guess I just prefer to live each day with a little bit of enjoyment. After all, too much time spent pondering "what could have been" can be inhibiting and get in the way of one's real path in the world.
I'm incredibly lucky to have loving family and friends, and two kitties who amuse me daily. On the career side, I'm a consultant with a boutique strategic advisory and investment banking firm here in LA - I specialize in assisting small to mid-sized companies with their growth initiatives, which include everything from business planning and market research, to capital raises. The fields I focus on, specifically, are restaurant/hospitality, real estate, retail, and entertainment. If you're an entrepreneur looking for such services, check us out at www.growthink.com . Thanks for checking in - be well, and be happy! xoxo ~ Christiana

HEY NIGHTLIFE LOVERS! Don't forget Forty Deuce just because I'm no longer there - I'll continue to be a part of the family and visit as much as I can myself! The Hollywood location is now closed, with a new one in the works for downtown in 2009; but Las Vegas is alive and well and Ivan's new cafe/restaurant on Sunset & Vine, "Cafe wa s", should be opening over the Summer. Check out these links to find out more: THE OFFICIAL FORTY DEUCE WEB SITE as well as THE FORTY DEUCE MYSPACE PAGE

The following logo will give you a little idea as to what I aspired to be in my youth. Alas, it never really panned out. Perhaps they have a new version, where she's all grown-up and living off of Daddy Warbucks' estate??? There's hope yet... TOMORROW.
Requisite smart girl posting...
You Are A Woman!
Congratulations, you've made it to adulthood.
You're emotionally mature, responsible, and unlikely to act out.
You accept that life is hard - and do your best to keep things upbeat.
This makes you the perfect girlfriend... or even wife! Are You A Girl Or a Woman?
You Are 45% Left Brained, 55% Right Brained
The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.
Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.
If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.
Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.
The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.
Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.
If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.
Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports. Are You Right or Left Brained?

You Scored an A
You got 10/10 questions correct.
It's pretty obvious that you don't make basic grammatical errors.
If anything, you're annoyed when people make simple mistakes on their blogs.
As far as people with bad grammar go, you know they're only human.
And it's humanity and its current condition that truly disturb you sometimes.
The It's Its There Their They're Quiz
Speaking of, if any of my fellow grammarians
have not yet read this book, it's a MUST!
To wait an hour is long,
if love be just beyond;
To wait eternity is short,
if love reward the end.

My Interests

Singing standards! Check out my MySpace music page at www.myspace.com/canthelpsingin to hear tracks from my CD "Can't Help Singin'" ; or purchase your very own copy from Christiana On Amazon

Breaking news! I was selected as one of TWO new vocalists to be featured on a cabaret/lounge compilation album to be released by Holiday 2008. It's now in the engineering/orchestration stage. Stay "tuned" for details (pun intended!) as well as a few live performances around LA!

ONE OF THE NEW TRACKS IS PLAYING ON THIS PAGE, "A NIGHTINGALE SANG IN BERKELEY SQUARE" - I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT!!

Animal lovers: CLICK THIS TEXT DAILY to feed an animal in need FOR FREE!

When you sign up for Windows Messenger, you can support a cause every time you IM. I chose the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Who will YOU choose? Sign up NOW!

You'll get blasted by this squirrel if you don't!

I also love exercising, riding my beach cruiser, traveling, relaxing with my kitties and reading a good spy novel; listening to some Big Band music over a nice meal; shopping (shocker!); and spending quality time with good friends over fine wine and conversation!

NEW things I am in the midst of trying: Spanish lessons and Ballroom Dancing!

One of my favorite spots in the world: The Ciragan Palace Hotel in Istanbul, on the Bosphorus... simply lovely!

Another travel photo, but from a jot across the Strait of Gibraltar to Tangier... this archway, just before the entrance to the Casbah, is probably among the most breathtaking things I have ever seen.

I'd like to meet:

Jeff Buckley, Winston Churchill, George & Ira Gershwin (well, if they were alive...); Bonnie Raitt, the remaining Beatles (Paul & Ringo), and my personal favorite: GEORGE CLOONEY!!! And yes, I know he's now taken. Sniff sniff....

"Hallelujah"... his version is one of the Top 100 songs of all time according to Rolling Stone ~ breathtaking.

I got rhythm, I got music... I got my love, who could ask for anything more?!

The Fab Four... Abbey Road, what a freakin' fantastic album and cover photo!

I'll "HUG IT OUT" with Jeremy anytime!

Ah, the Lullaby of Broadway... I'd like to rekindle the flame with my inner Broadway Diva, perhaps following in the footsteps of Chita Rivera, who was close to 70 when she won her first Tony Award. It IS possible!

Music:

You name it, I like it. Well, most of the time! Favorites are compositions by the Gershwins, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and jazz greats John Coltrane and Miles Davis; Yo Yo Ma (love the cello); Nancy Wilson, Lena Horne, Rosemary Clooney, and Sarah Vaughan; requisite classics like The Beatles, Cream, The Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix; Neil Finn, John Legend, Rufus Wainwright, and the late Jeff Buckley... and that is only the beginning of a VERY long list.

Currently in the iPod and CD player rotation: Alicia Keys (one modern-day R&B artist who actually gets it RIGHT), Sia, Mat Kearney, Earl Greyhound, The Greyboy Allstars, Jesca Hoop, Ray LaMontagne, Imogen Heap, Siobhan Donaghy, Powderfinger, Spoon, A Fine Frenzy, Sondra Lerche. And, saving the best for last, I highly recommend checking out "Little Voice" by Sara Bareilles , whom I have had the pleasure of meeting and seeing perform in the early stages of her career - go Sara!

Movies:

La Vie En Rose, Rear Window, A Room With A View, Breakfast At Tiffany's, Casablanca, The Pianist, The Shawshank Redemption, When Harry Met Sally..., The Princess Bride, Bringing Up Baby, Die Hard, Fletch, Foul Play.... Gawd, there are SOOO many more. Last movie seen in the theater: Michael Clayton. Must support my boyfriend. Haha! No, really, it was a gripping, thought-provoking, smart thriller. Highly recommended!

"You only THINK I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha..." (thump)

Oh, and since I have a secret desire to be "La Femme Christiana"...
A Classic Beauty...

Television:

With HBO setting the precedent for witty/smart programming, there are now sooo many good shows! Not too into TV before, I'm now changing my tune.... or my channel, as it were!

Requisite Favorites: Ugly Betty, Entourage, LOST, Men In Trees, Brothers & Sisters, Scrubs, The Office, Monk, How I Met Your Mother; New favorites:Back To You, Damages, Moonlight, In Treatment; Secret obsession: MI-5, on BBC America... oooh!

The main thing about me and TV is that I simply adore shows that have a penchant for spontaneous song & dance. Yes, I love the ridiculous.

Still mourning the end of Gilmore Girls... since I AM one, seemingly!

Books:

Okay... this is impossible. I refuse to limit this category. I will instead use genres. Espionage (as referenced somewhere above in my babble), historical fiction, and absolutely NO ROMANCE! Yick. A favorite author:

Heroes:

My parents. Enough said.

And for my Dad, the environmentalist, who has a compost pile and always fought to save wildlife, wetlands, and nature preserves when I was growing up:

I retain my faith in the team after two upsetting bowl losses.... so, here's to a strong 2008-09 season!
