Summer 2005 singer/songwriter Jeroen De Pauw met Mattijs Vanderleen, a drummer and conservatory graduate. Both of them were looking to expand their musical horizons.
Jeroen had toured various European venues and been support act of The Rasmus. Mattijs had done a lot of session work, jazz and classical percussion. The two sonic travelers soon felt increasingly confident about the music they were playing.
Jeroen had a lot of songs that were very personal and that he didn´t really dare to play. Mattijs had the musical insight to give them the right rhythm and punch and mould them into interesting pieces of music.
Inspired by the leading character in Kubricks "2001 A Space Odyssey" they decided to call their musical exploration BOWMAN. Only a big jump into the unknown can lead to real results.
Jeroen and Mattijs chose not to take the easy way but to experiment with different ways and techniques of recording. Some songs where given a rich and full arrangement and others where stripped down to the naked essence of acoustic guitars and vocals. Every song is distinctly recognizable by Jeroens powerful voice. Some of them are hard to get out of your head even if you hear them for the first time.
BOWMAN gently grabs you by the throat, live or on tape, and always expresses something authentic and real.
