To thine own self be true

About Me

Funkier Than A Mosquito's Tweeter
by Nikka Costa
You're nothing but a dirty dirty old man
You do your thinkin with a one track mind
Keep talking 'bout heaven's glory
But on your face is a different story
Clean up your act, your story's gettin dusty
Wash out your mouth, your lies are getting rusty
Can't believe nothin you say
Cause I'm around and I see what you do
You know you're funkier than a mosquito's tweeter
You got a mouth like a herd of bowl weevers
Same old thing same old game
You never change
Always rappin 'bout the same old thing
Blowing minds is a thing of the past
You blew your chance, that's why you'll never last
You wanna be a graduated lover
But in reality you're just another brother
You think you're slick but you could stand a lot of greasin'
The things you do ain't never really pleasin'
My tears do not compromise my strength.
"Never apologize for showing feeling. When you do so, you apologize for the truth." ~Benjamin Disraeli
"I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of Love, of Truth, of Light and of Peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, We Are One." Namaste!
"Perhaps love is the process of my leading you gently back to yourself." ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery
"But now I know in my heart what before I understood only in my head: We don't fall in love for reasons. This is the source of love's meaning and of our obsession with it.
In an age where every phenomenon is assumed to have an explanation, love keeps us human; love taps us into mystery, into that which we can't control or explain: love, and grief.
To love is to give oneself over to another, to entrust to someone else a power that all good sense would have us reserve to ourselves. So we give away some part of ourselves, to find that part returned to us tenfold, in ways we could never have predicted and cannot rationally understand.
Loaves and fishes. Miracles happen."
~excerpts from Geography of the Heart by Fenton Johnson
"You are not here merely to make a living. You're here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision; with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand." ~Winston Churchill
"Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." ~Howard Thurman
"Contained in one day, there is enough love to free the entire world, and enough fear to enslave it. Every minute holds everything you need to recreate yourself, or completely destroy yourself."
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." ~Anne Frank
The heart can resolve conflicts in an instant; the ego can hold onto something for years.
"Life is but a brief moment. The years go by quickly and old age arrives suddenly before we have an inkling. People desire so many things and waste their days in vain. Some yearn for gold, others for power, yet others for glory and a higher station. But when death's moment nears and they look back at their lives they've lived, they realize they've been happy only during those moments when they've loved." ~Borje Vahamaki
Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails... 1 Corinthians 13 New World Translation.
Genuine love is more than just affection or sentiment. It consistently acts in the very best interests of others, even if they do not fully appreciate it at the time.
Quantum Theory... you dig?
The deepest level of truth uncovered by science and by philosophy is the fundamental truth of UNITY. At that deepest subnuclear level of our reality... you and I are literally ONE.
Most people don't affect reality in a consistent, substantial way because they don't believe they can. They write an intention and then they erase it because they think, "That's silly, I can't do that". It comes down to the fact that they believe they can't do it. Positive thinking is a wonderful idea but what it usually means is you have a little smear of positive thinking covering a whole mass of negative thinking. We just disguise the negative. We become stuck in thinking we don't have a role in reality.
I choose the experience. I create my own reality. There is no "out there" independent of what's going on "in here". We've been conditioned to believe that the external world is more real than the internal world. This new model of science says just the opposite. It says what's happening within us will create what's happening outside of us.
The real trick to life is not to be in the know, but be in the mystery!
How far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go?
From 1997 to 2001 I was blessed to have participated
in five American AIDS Rides:
Boston to New York 1997 (300 miles, 3 days)
Boston to New York 1998 (300 miles, 3 days)
Texas 1999 (350 miles, 4 days)
Boston to New York 2000 (300 miles, 3 days)
Twin Cities to Chicago 2001 (500 miles, 6 days)
My life would never be the same.
For an excellent account of what life on the AIDS Ride
was like please click here: Spoke Busters for AIDS
While the Rides as I knew them are no more, the fight continues.
NEVER give up.
Photo from closing ceremonies of the Twin Cities to Chicago AIDS Ride 2001... my last Ride.
I'm on stage next to the guy wearing Mickey Mouse ears.
Words do not do justice to what it feels like to be surrounded by the love of 3,000 people in one place.
When the next generation asks what YOU did to stop HIV/AIDS, what will be your answer?

'You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-You-Are?You're chicken. You got no guts. You're afraid to say, Ok, life's a fact. People do fall in love. People do belong to each other. Because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness. You call yourself a free spirit. A wild thing. You're terrified somebody's going to stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded by Tulip, Texas or Somaliland. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself.'
