About Me

Martin Holde (b. November 9, 1982), bassist and composer born in Copenhagen, Denmark. I started playing bass in high school in big bands, musicals and other variety shows. Hereby I developed, not only my reading ability but also a flare and curiosity for many styles of music, including jazz, r&b, Brazilian, soul and funk.Soon after graduation in 2001 I became part of the jazz fusion quartet Bozkov with Anders Toft Larsen on drums, Thomas Roosen on guitar(later released by Martine Madsen) and Søren Pendrup on saxophone. In this group I explored many styles of music within the jazz realm. The group became a trio after Søren Pendrup left and our composition style gradually changed thereby. We were asked to host and administer a jazz club at the venue Forbrœndingen(www.fbf.dk). This lead us to meet many of the top jazz musicians of Denmark and helped us put our name on the map.Along the side of Bozkov, I played in a variety of show and cover bands and gigged intensively in the Copenhagen area. Among shows I did a season ''Studenterrevyen'' (The Student Variety Show) which is known for casting aspiring actors in the Danish theater and movie industry.I graduated in September 07 from LA Music Academy, where I studied under Jerry Watts, Steve Billman, DavidLevray, Hussian Jiffry, Phil Bynoe and Lynne Davis. At ''LAMA'' I soon became tutor and student rep. I still tutor and play for the ensemble workshops.I have played and/or recorded with/for the following: Brad Rabuchin (Ray Charles), Deedee O'Malley, Mel Nelson (Chick Corea), Tony Kaye (Yes), Daniela Torchia, Angela Latham, Anduze, the 'True Worshipers Of God' Choir, Flemming Danielsen, Anders Toft Larsen, Mads Heide, Johan Frank (EWF), Matt Ramerman, Mike Shapiro, Jerry Randolph, Marvin Lawton, Vince Samuel, Aaron Markovitz, Emily Burns, Keith "Stix", Mike Hughs, Paul Cassarino, Sean Lane, Superficial Saints, Synergy, Bozkov(DK), and many more...I play Fender and MTD basses with MTD strings through Aguilar amplification. www.myspace.com/martinholde

Sounds Like: It depends on what I'm playing. But I like to stay true to the genre I'm working with. That doesn't mean that won't create fusion between certain styles, but I first and foremost believe in the root's of music, whether it be soul, jazz or rock. Here are some names that definitely helped define who I am as a bassist: James Jamerson, Bob Babbit, Chuck Rainy, Will Lee, Pino Palladino and many more. I have also been through my mandatory crush on Jaco Pastorious' playing, but found my self drawn further towards the Motown and early R&B sound. I love the crisp woolliness of an old p-bass through and old tube amp, the sound that one will find on most records before 1970. I have always been a great fan of Steely Dan and have lately adapted a liking for the bass sound on records like "Everything Must Go" and Donald Fagen's "Morph the Cat". An embarrassingly clean yet growling tone with all the natural sounds the instrument makes from playing it.I currently use Dean Markley strings and play MTD and Fender basses through Aguilar cabinets.
