There are certain musicians that over time become iconic and serve as touchstones for our times and popular culture. Among these are the smooth tones of rising star Robert Sabado. A master saxophone stylist whose versatility has earned him worldwide notability and the distinction of being the only American-Filipino artist to have performed the saxophone at The Library of Congress. Sabado's remarkable talents are on full display throughout Cool Yule, his latest release on the DIP Records label (Executive Producer: Dr. W. Gray Grieve).This latest collection succeeds his highly regarded 1999 label debut, Face 2 Face, which marked his first studio recording. Face 2 Face introduced Sabado as fresh talent earning critical acclaim and living up to "having the best tone around", as said by jazz legend, Stan Getz, at Stanford University. In 2000, Robert Sabado recorded his first Christmas CD entitled This Christmas.Furthering his practice of recording songs that span many different stylistic genres, Sabado's new release offers a selection of holiday tunes with urban-flavored grooves, soulful romantic ballads, jazz-inspired improvisations, and Latin-influenced anthems. "I have been around the world and I believe my music can take the listener to exotic lands," explains Sabado. "The listener may want to take a trip down town on track one or go all the way into outer space on It's a Small World and I think that accounts for the diversity on Cool Yule."In 2007, Sabado will release a new CD with all original compositions. The new project will show how the sax man has matured as a musician and composer. From smooth jazz to R&B grooves to futuristic soundscapes, there will be something for every listener.
