COSMOSKVA

About Me

Cosmoskva was formed in 2001 by 3 instrumentalists, who were playing in other bands during that time, but the similiarity of musical tastes brought them together. First only playing pure stage-improvisations, also performing some jazzmusic classics like „Cameleon”, they were acknowledged as one of the most interesting bands in their little home island, that had courage to experiment and do different kind of music. They soon realised that their music needs more than just three instruments, to perform the music they wanted to play. Cello and saxophones were added to the line up, and when the superb vocalist Liisu joined them, it seemed as the puzzle was finally going to be completed. They gave successful live performances in the best clubs in Estonia – Prive, club Tallinn etc. Writing good music and lyrics was the main goal for the band. The band expanded by an excelent trumpet player and the music was getting to a different level with that adjustment. Successful live performances continued – performances in Von Krahl club, as a warmup for one of the best European jazzacts Five Corners Quintet, BonBon and different private parties raised enough money to record their first independent EP Milch Attack which reached to radiostations and got high reviews from music critics because of its natural street soundalikes. Songs like 2steps2work and Marshall reached to number 1 position in the biggest alternative music e-zines chart two months in a row(this had never happened before with one artist). The band was complete after fluteplayer joining the band. The 7 piece band performed in the biggest jazzfestival of Baltics, Jazzkaar 2005, where their show was sold out in Tallinn Jazzclub, but also gave live performance in National Radio2 and a show with local hiphop figures. The band has got positive feedback to their music from Universal records Finland, and from different musiceans abroad, like Tim Motzer (performing with Ursula Rucker). In 2006 the band started to record their first album in Estonia National Radio, by July the album was completed. The critics so far has been positive. The band continues to write new tunes and give a new twist to their music.
