In the spring of 2003, three guys with little talent, less musical education and no clue decided to form a ska band, which they had the maturity and sound judgment to call Skaduhapik (directly translated: Doyouwantcock). They were Klavs Ferdinand (on guitar and vocals), Jasper Ellermann (on drums) and David Strand (on bass). As a trio, they practiced together less than five times before taking a break of about a year. Then, in the summer of 2004, the desire to play ska returned with a vengeance, and as luck would have it, Simon Stougaard was available to step in as lead singer. The quartet messed around for another year or so, gradually moving toward a different instrument constellation; it turned out Jasper was a far better bassist than David, while David could play some guitar, and Klavs was a fair drummer, so it made sense to shuffle the deck a bit. As a result, the few gigs Skaduhapik had during this period looked a bit like a game of musical chairs, with some songs being played in one constellation and others in the new and improved lineup. In early 2006, as the band was settling into its new format, the alto-saxophone-playing Greek youth, Andreas “Kid Parly†Latif, joined. Amid all this change, it was decided that the name Skaduhapik should forever be laid to rest. The name debate went on for some time with many good suggestions, until in June of 2006, coinciding with the release of a five-song demo, the name Orange Whip was settled upon as a tribute to John Candy, The Blues Brothers and nasty drinks. In 2007, Orange Whip became the sexiest sextet in Copenhagen with the addition of accomplished tenor-saxophonist, Martin "Mr. Mandalay" Rasmussen."
