About Me

I also have a profile here for my music and writing at: http://www.myspace.com/shannonbatescreates ... I play in a band called Society! who is here at http://www.myspace.com/questionyourauthority or out in netland at http://societymusicrevolution.com ... Also check out: www.shannonbatescreates.com and www.myspace.com/shannonbatescreates !!! I also have prose readings available for listening on-line: http://www.firstfridayprose.com (from a monthly prose reading at the Grove in South Park). I am a writer (fiction and poetry, and I read and feature at open mics around Southern California), musician (saxophone for 25 years now, flute, background vocals, and I pretend to play a little bit of cello, keyboards, etc.), soccer player (30 years now), and thinker (can we analyze that?). I love to laugh, and I have a sarcastic sense of humor. My schedule is packed, and that's the way I like it. I currently play with an afrobeat/funk band called iSociety!. In the past, I have also contributed to a Latin/R&B/funk/jazz band called Insight, and a little to a Latin group called Piece by Peace. I played with riboflavin' for five years, and I used to play with Saturns Day (http://www.myspace.com/saturnsday) when they were in town, Paper Saloon when they were a band, and anyone else who invites me for a jam. I have also done some recording and other work with a band called Ghetto Sage, and some flute recordings for Deal by Dusk in Orange County. I have been sitting in with all sorts of bands, and I'm always hip to trying new stuff.

My Interests

Playing the saxophone (and flute and stuff), writing fiction and poetry, reading and/or hosting at open mic nights, playing soccer, watching polar bears, the color green, wandering aimlessly, falling in love with boys, dissecting life to the most minute detail, observing others (great fodder for fiction!), laughing uncontrollably and seemingly without reason (especially with my sister).

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet: Thinkers, creators, laughers, lovers. I like to learn new things and share what I know with others. People who share my interests are always attractive to me. But if you really want to light my fire, you must be a boy who has a way with words and a musical instrument. I'm a sucker for musicians and writers. And boys in general. :P But if you catch me while I am in a relationship, then I only have eyes for that one boy.As far as actual people whom I'd like to meet: Johnny Depp, Harry Connick, Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Tori Amos, Trent Reznor, Thom Yorke, and Kathryn Harrison.

Hopefully someday my own novels will be on the shelves to be others' favorites... I have attended the Maui Writers' Conference three times, the San Diego Writers' Conference once, and I am continuing the search for the perfect literary agent (turned down two offers so far). Keep your fingers crossed for me!
