Do you want glossy or do you want grainy? Tactful or truthful?
Glossy: She is the kid of a traveling preacher. She started singing in church, in Oklahoma, at the age of five. Church taught her soul and four-part harmony.
Grainy: Childhood also brought too many towns and struggles between the real world and the church world. Those experiences created the roots of an artist with a lot to say and an understanding of how to say it.
She made her first Gospel record at eleven years old, and her second Gospel record at fifteen. She hosted her own television show at sixteen. Then, like Aretha Franklin, she decided it was time to communicate with the huge world that exists outside the church. She started writing songs to that world. She moved to Nashville and quickly earned respect as a professional singer/songwriter. She recorded, performed, and toured with artists such as Amy Grant, Sheryl Crow, Wynona Judd, Faith Hill, Peter Frampton, Michael McDonald, Trisha Yearwood, Donna Summer, Victor Wooten, Vince Gill, Tommy Sims . . . . (better stop me now, this could go on for a couple of minutes).
Impressive list for the new girl in town. She was excited and flattered to be working with such well-respected, talented artists, but she still was not singing enough of her own songs. She had cooked it up and had no place to serve it.
Time to move. . . again.
Five years ago Tabitha moved to New York City and has become one of the top and most successful singers on the scene!
