Back from Rwanda

About Me

I just returned from a 7 month gig on a refugee camp in Rwanda and now I'm a Director with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health...Check out my Rwandan adventures on www.backpackgal.com.I'm an insomniac who over-commits herself and rarely says NO when asked to help with something. I tried to go vegan once, but the polite Nodak in me never wants to offend people by not eating their food (that, and I worked at an ice cream parlor in college), so veganism didn't last too long. I'm obsessed with brushing my teeth. I'm happiest when I am doing theater, laughing with friends, or discussing politics. Screw drugs and tattoos, travel is my vice. For some reason, it is not uncommon for me to find myself at 1 AM in some random country like Tonga befriending a bunch of Tongan gang members (who were deported from the US due to violent crimes) for a ride back to the village where I am visiting my Peace Corps friend, or struggling to get a rock python out of my car engine on a wild game preserve in Kenya. I'm a klutz. I talk about poop- a lot. If the music's playing- I'm usually dancing. I move around a lot- although I was in Boston for 8 years. I think that's a record.(and yes, if you think I look familiar because we may have gone to elementary school together in Japan or Germany, you are not mistaken. I spent third and forth grade in Hario, Japan (near Sasebo), and 5th-8th grade in Bad Hersfeld and Fulda, Germany. A random 9th grade year in Washington and then high school in North Dakota- I guess I just like to mix it up ;-) But if you are from any of those places, please send me a note!)
