Welcome!

About Me

I'm Steph :)
I am slightly crazy but have a serious side too.
I love live music, especially Martyn Joseph gigs, log fires, the sea and harbours, wildlife, writing, siamese cats, real coffee, big bikes, red wine, hugging, rainbows, lavender, snow drops, lush bubble baths, Waterstones, chocolate, the Estee Lauder counter and my friends.I love pottery by Denby and Emma Bridgwater, and the work of Clarice Cliff. Oh and I love handbags too!
I hate loud parties, crowded pubs, drugs and prejudice.
I am a very proud Mum to Abigail, Charlotte, Joseph, Megan and Joshua. My kids haven't always had it easy and I am so proud of them all :)
I have learnt a lot, but sometimes I forget. I love my friends and family with all my heart and would do anything I could for them.I hate conflict, but will stand up for what I believe in. I have learned that to forgive yourself is one of the most important things you can do. I am not afraid to say sorry. I admire creativity in others and one day I would like to write a book of short stories. I get frightened by what we do to our planet and to our fellow man. I am spontaneous and love to laugh. I like company, but need my own space sometimes. A song called Precious by Martyn Joseph once brought me back to myself and my children. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I think sometimes I shouldn't. But I still do. I am not afraid to dance in public if the mood takes me.I like stripey scarves and fluffy dressing gowns. I miss having someone to hug me. I love the ocean and wild empty spaces. One day I would like to see New York. I like holding hands and I like watching snow falling, as long as I don't have to drive anywhere in it! I love second hand bookshops, won't buy eggs or chicken unless they're free range and would love to go to Memphis Tennessee.

Also love prisoner cell block H and the Waltons, and Planet Earth but hate it when the animals kill each other :( I love Peter Kay too. And I love Dancing On Ice!
My career I have loved every minute of my working life as an NNEB. I've done some great jobs since qualifying in 1980, all of them with special needs kids and challenging behaviour. I've worked in the community, in childrens homes, rehabilitation units, Dr Barnardos, day nurseries, playschemes for kids in high rise flats in inner London, respite work in private homes, hospitals and schools. I would carry on with it if I won the lottery! It is a privilege to spend time with the kids, and we laugh a lot!

Books:

Adore anything by:
Stan Barstow, Alan Sillitoe, HE Bates, Ann Rule, Rona Jaffe, Jacqueline Susann and loads of others. I like autobiographies, and stories about people who are inspirational in some way.My fave books of all time are A Kind of Loving by Stan Barstow, The Executioners Song by Norman Mailer and The Best of Everything by Rona Jaffe. My fave recent books include Random Acts of Heroic Love, The Kite runner and Innocent Traitor. But basically, give me a book and I'm happy!
