I am here for Friends

About Me

I have amazing friends who I am thankful for every day of my life. I get overprotective of them and will bitch people out in either English or Spanish if they are mean to them. They have my back and give me full support and they know exactly who they are. I know both liars and honest types. Call me crazy, but I prefer the honest types. My mom is a Scottish born Argentine so I make a mean chorizo but like to accompany it with a nice stout. Clowns freak me out. As do socks with individual sections for toes. Toes should not be individually wrapped.I'm a smoking/drinking/red meat eating buddhist so apparently I'm a bit of a hypocrite, but then again that's why they call it "practice." I get upset if I accidentally kill a bug, but I like bacon with my weekend brunch. Ridiculous, I know. I like honest people who can laugh (and don't eat with their mouths open--the sound of the gnashing and sucking repulses me.) I hate mushrooms, marmite and saurkraut in equal measures. Gaggity gag gag gag. I love good coffee and drink it. A lot. When I was 11 I wanted to take drum lessons. I took 3 with a mean woman from the Philadelphia Philharmonic and quit. She was probably a big closet case and didn't know what to do with a blossoming bulldyke from the suburbs. Regardless, I would like to find someone (preferably NOT affiliated with the Philadelphia Philharmonic) to teach me to play the drums so I can fulfill my rock star fantasies.

My Interests

Screenwriting, filmmaking, my film collective CHERRY FILMS-the queer nyc-based group of women who ROCK, music, reading--everything from motorcycle maintenance to the history of the Black Panthers, motorcycles, drinking with my friends, animals (mine in particular), my niece and nephew, board games, bowling, guitars, backgammon, snowboarding (I'm currently rocking the bunny slope but trying to get better), pixar animation, tattoos, karaoke, roller coasters, Tibet, meditation, gay bingo hosted by hilarious drag queens, card games, good coffee, weight lifting, riding in cars with my girls, carnie folk, dharma punx, pema chodron, kids, vintage cars, scuba diving, and people who can enjoy any of the above activities/interests without taking themselves too seriously. I also love swimming with Siri (my bff) when we put our swim shorts on our heads (well I do, she puts her water "panties" on her head) and we pretend to be the mermen in Madonna's "Cherish" video. Nothing really says seaweed merman hair like swimtrucks. Guitar Hero. That's right. I'm not afraid to admit it.

I'd like to meet:

Honest, down to earth types who like to laugh a lot. People who use the word "lovely." I don't know why. It just makes me happy. Those who are willing to look at their own crap and own it. I wish I could've hung out with Bette Davis when she was still alive. I don't think she was as bitchy as people make her out to be. Just honest. And that's a rare thing in today's climate. Oh, and no one who's internally homophobic cuz that shit gets old. Real quick. And painted ladies are always welcome.

Music:

The Pixies, Bjork, Jane's Addiction, Blur, Elastica, Muse, Stars, Ok Go!, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead, Eve, Nina Simone, Ella F, Sarah Vaughn, The Smiths, Morrissey, Sleeter K, Siouxsie and the B's, the Clash, the Gossip, L7, sinead, Interpol, Garbage, Lourds, GSX, PJ Harvey, Gorillaz, She Wants Revenge, Patty Griffin, Dropkick Murphys, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Pulp, Hot Hot Heat, NIN, Weezer, Violent Femmes, (early) R.E.M., Erasure, Jesus and Mary Chain, Nekromantix, Horrorpops, New Order, Portishead, Queen Latifah, The Distillers, Massive Attack, Jill Scott, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Specials y mucho mas.

Movies:

So many...hmm...in no particular order: Goodfellas, Raising Arizona, Seven, Some Like It Hot, The Godfather, Mifune, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Amelie, Edward Scissorhands, City of Lost Children, Hedwig, Aliens, House of Yes, Baraka, Punch Drunk Love, Happiness, D.E.B.S., Team America, Wet Hot American Summer, Jesus' Son, All About Eve, Almodovar rocks my world and a slew of "artsier" films that would be predictable and boring to list considering I'm in film school. Spice World makes me psychotically happy.

Television:

PLANET EARTH (especially when eating "special" brownies), Rock of Love (Jes is my favorite), French and Saunders, Ab Fab, South Park, Queer As Folk, Sopranos, The L Word (eventhough the writing leaves something to be desired), 6 Feet Under, Forensic Files, but mostly I'm a film junkie.

Books:

Me Talk Pretty One Day (or really anything by David S.), the Fountainhead, 100 Years of Solitude, Random Family, Geek Love, Bastard Out of Carolina, Perfume, anything by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Poe, Dahl, Neruda and some damn good scripts that could make other "books" look like poor substitutes, words, words, words...

Heroes:

Che, and a special high five to my oldest sister for getting pregnant again when the odds were against her.

The 2/3

OK...I have thought this for a while, but think it's worth mentioning here. If you live in New York and ride the 2/3 train pay attention when the train leaves the station. It doesn't happen every ti...
