Drag Union

About Me

Drag Union is a grassroots collective made up of gender performers, activists, allies, friends, partners, and others who are involved with/generally interested in queer performance arts based in Vancouver (Coast Salish Territory). This is a resource for people who are concerned about receiving adequate compensation for performing/participating in shows.

We are an organization that has anti-racist, anti-heterosexist, anti-homophobic, anti-sexist, anti-transphobic, anti-ableist, anti-classist, and anti-ageist ideologies.

We will be creating a list of producers/venues/promoters in our "heroes" section who believe in what the Drag Union stands for. They will be listed here, and can be used as a resource for performers/staff who wish to be compensated for their work. We will also offer our logo on flyers for shows that are in line with our values as a "stamp of approval," which can act as a guide for performers to which shows they will be paid at.

Testimonials from past shows

S.Quire-"I loved being a part of the Drag Union show because I felt like the duties were divided equally so we could all still have a lot of fun making it happen. I was really happy that all the friends I invited to come watch could get in for a minimal price. It felt good to be a part of something so accessible and community-oriented."

Edward Malaprop-"Performing with Drag Union was great fun and I got experience working at parts of a show I'd previously been unexposed to. 'Twas awesome."

Tommy Montana "Working with Drag Union was definatly a learning experience for me.Previously I had only performed a handful of times, and always withthe same group. Drag Union gave me a chance as an amateur to work withmore seasoned performers, and I was able to learn a lot from them. Iwas also seeing a very different side of what it takes to put on ashow. In spite of this though, the atmosphere was one of equality, aswe were all working equally hard on the show and gaining an equalamount of the dividends for our work."

Daxx"I enjoyed performing in Drag Union because everyone had an equal stake in the show. With all the performers working together, the show was a fun, collective event that I would definitely do again!"
