About Me
Going forward I will be uploading a few mixes of mine.It isn’t easy putting a label on DJ Joey C’s music. His is a style born from all styles. A style that may be difficult to define but one that is unmistakable in it’s influences. Born in April of 1984, Joey Camacho was initially introduced to Jazz music through his father. The dynamic combination of instruments he heard set the standard for much of the music he would create later in his life. But it would be ten long years before Joey went from avid music fan to actual musician…ten years spent assimilating all the sounds he could into a mixture that was fresh and new.In December of 1994, as his brother was turning 21, ten year old Joey would make that leap, playing a combination of Miami Bass, Hip-Hop, Freestyle, and Old School. This would sustain him for the time being, but it was evident even in those days that Joey was meant to push the boundaries as far as they would go.In 1999, he discovered House Music and began incorporating it into his ever-growing repertoire. “No one CD got me into it,†he admits. “I was interested in the sounds that nobody else was playing. I was interested in being different.†2001 saw Joey C continuing to evolve with a more dramatic focus on House Music. While his playing still incorporated all genres he was becoming increasingly drawn to the San Francisco House Scene. Eventually, this obsession with House Music would drive him to dedicate all his energy towards it.By 2004, House Music was his specialty. Joey C, however, was putting his own stamp on it…regardless of popular opinion. “It wasn’t typical House,†he says. “I had a sound that was different, a sound I loved. No matter how many people didn’t like it, I had even more that did.†This growing popularity for Joey C’s varied sound was clearly evident as he soon found himself DJing clubs, Undergrounds, and house parties. This in turn introduced him to Maitre V where the party "Rush" began. Rush is a new initmate party was set into place. In the Fall of 2005 he earned a much coveted residency at Club Octane in Monterey, California, where he’s had the opportunity to work with an array of talent including Jesse Gonzalez, Fred Parra, Ivan Ruiz, Maitre V, Durty, and Jimmy B..In Spring of 2007 Rush was restarted and has boomed. With the help of 831 Magazine the sky is now the limit in the 831 area code.Currently, Joey C’s style has expanded even further to include tracks ranging from Funky, Disco, Deep, and Electro House. So where does he go from here? “I plan to start re-mixing and producing tracks as well as make it my personal mission to expand the 831’s knowledge of House Music and Electronic Music in general.†One thing is certain, Joey C is just getting started.
