Wisconson (US) based PHANTASM was born out of the ashes of HUMAN EVIL near the end of 1988. Tony Brandt (vocals & drums) and Scott Mckillop (guitar), wanted to create a band that was heavy, hardcore, eerie, but yet, original.
PHANTASM became their name, and "Keeper of The Dead" was the first song, they put together. More songs got made and shows got played.
Matt Grassberger, became their bassest, who used to play for DR. SHRINKER. They got great crowd responses from their shows. They then headed to the studio, to record their first demo "Lycanthropy" which was released in april of 1990.
Later on, Matt had left to start his own band. PHANTASM then, had gotten a new bassist, Steve Somers, and a second guitarist, Doug Schoeneck. The band worked on more material and headed back into the studio to record their second demo "The Abominable"which was released in october of 1992. The shows they played included four Metalfests with bands such as Slayer, Sepultura, Impetigo, Deicide, Obituary, and other shows with Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel, Entombed, and many others. PHANTASM set out in search of a record label. After an extended time of trying, they were signed on by a small label out of Chicago called Monsterdisc. In march of 1995, PHANTASM released their 2nd demo "The Abominable" along with a new song " Gut Suckers" as their first full length CD. Later in 1995, Steve Somers left the band.
PHANTASM picked up Lee Groth (MORTAL DREAD) to play bass for their remaining shows. Sad to say, but the band then broke up at the end of 1995 for personal differences. Rest In Peace!
