For the rapper now known as Coolwadda is Coolie High its a perfect fit. The West Coast rapper formerly known as Coolie or Coolwadda is primed and ready for his solo debut on Asphalt Entertainment, LLC, the label he recently formed with close friend and business associate, Keith K-Mack Boles. Coolie High is the culmination of many months on the mic, spitting verse after verse on track after track. Its a travel inside of my mind right now, Coolie says. But to get to right now, you have to go back to where he started. Born Stacy Wagner and raised by a single mom in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, Coolie was a hip-hop baby who came to the life through breakdancing. Coolie and his friends started freestyling because there wasnt really anything else to do once the breakdancing era played out. The only thing we could do was entertain ourselves with freestyles, Coolie recalls.Coolie has been making a name for himself in the rap game for more than a decade. In 1995, he joined a crew called The Tone Def Clique, where he met fellow rapper Chico. The two would eventually partner up to become Chico and Coolwadda, and release two full-length albums, WILD N THE WEST (MCA) and PARALLEL(456 Ent.). Both projects garnered modest success, critical acclaim, and put them in the company of numerous platinum selling producers, including Chris The Glove Taylor (Dr. Dre) and Mahogany (Jay-Z). Coolie states, that for a long time, record execs tried to put him in a box, labeling him as something that he wasnt. Im in the streets on a daily, he says: But I cant say Im a gangbanger; I like having fun, man. That fun-loving, more laid back style and flow that is typical of the West Coast, is what fans can expect on the new album.Now with his own recording studio at his fingertips, Coolie realizes that when hes in control, he doesnt have to compromise his artistic integrity, nor his originality. Releasing an album is nothing he cant do on his own, and as the flagship artist for Asphalt Entertainment, Coolwadda is Coolie High is ready to deliver. Hes already released two street albums (Wadda Damage Vol. 1 & 2), and is featured with his partnerin-rhyme Chico on the Waist Deep Score (Def Jam 2006). Coolwadda is Coolie Highs debut will also boast features from the West Coasts hottest and brightest stars such as: Keak tha Sneak, Suga Free, Kokane, Dub Sac & Young Hootie, with production being handled by Mr. Porter (50 Cent, Busta Rhymes), XL (Game) & S-Class (E-40, Young Jeezy, Beanie Sigel). This album is sure to capture the true Chico & Coolwadda fans, as well as, expand Coolwaddas audience with the creativity he put into his solo effort.
