OUR SPRING SESSION STARTS MARCH 12th, 2008!!!!!!Our mission statement: The central mission of the New Media Network is to heighten awareness of community issues in Columbia, Missouri's First Ward through the use of technology informed by creative expression. Progress towards this goal will be achieved through two simultaneous efforts: 1) to provide students between the ages of 12 and 18 with access to (and training in) digital photography, journalistic and creative audio recording, and musical recording technology, and 2) to provide a public radio and community access television forum for the artistic agency and journalistic work of those voices marginalized by the intersecting factors of race and class, thereby integrating their experiences and perspectives with those of the larger community. The New Media Network seeks to foster and encourage the development of skills that will directly contribute to students' academic success, to help facilitate feelings of empowerment and self-esteem, to encourage community involvement, identity, pride, and ownnership, and to raise greater local awareness about the important resources that young people offer to their communities. We believe cultural development IS community development.
