Tears for the dead gods came to life in 1999, as guitarist Fred Bergeron and bassist Frank R. Anthony wanted to take their music in a heavier direction than their previous band Sin on Skin. The aim was to make an album even before making a band. So the task of writing every drum beat and keyboard line on a sequencer was undertook ; and took about 2 years. At the time, Fred Bergeron was also playing in the Iron Maiden tribute band Up the Irons, which featured vocalist Carlos Lopez, so he approached him with the idea to sing on the album. Carlos joined the team as official singer.Having been in the studio before with a drum sequencer and never wanting to live the experience again, Fred and Frank started looking for a drummer to record the album. They found Mathieu Groulx and offered him to adapt and record the drum tracks. Everything was set , and a year later the recording of the album began at Wild Studio with Pierre Remillard behind the board. The self-titled debut finally came out in 2005 as a concept album about a war between science and religion that brings forth chaos on a forlorn planet.Soon, the need to have a real band came and new musicians were added to the line-up: guitarist Stephane Filion and Keyboardist Julie Morin came on board. After the release of the album, it was decided that the band would go in a heavier direction, but without losing melody. And so, a new singer was found in the person of Martin Frechette. Mixing clean singing to death scream type vocals, Martin is a breath of fresh air to the band. Energetic, aggressive, melodic, progressive and hook-driven; this is how can be described the new material in the works. Expect a killer second album.
