An interest in photography was sparked during a 1997 trip through Mexico and Guatemala. Like those that travel, I was captivated by the local landscapes and traditions but how to transfer these to film? Two years later, while living in Ireland I bought a manual camera and began seeing the countryside in terms of light, shadow and points between. This led to studies in form, texture and tone after returning to St. John's. ............................................. From 2001 to 2004 I was mentored by a known local fine art photographer while discovering photography's pioneers and artists. I then began shooting primarily in black and white as focus shifted from landscapes to people and portraiture. ............................................. My first substantial work was a photo feature on multicultural women in St. John's, for Taloua; a Toronto based, French language magazine.
