About Me

My Name is Citation. Phil Georgeff wrote a wonderful book about me called Citation - In Class By Himself. Please read Phil's book if you'd like to read the definitive book about me. Phil considers me the greatest Thoroughbred who ever lived. Regal equine poetry in motion. Half human and half horse. I'm the 8th Triple Crown Champion and the First Thoroughbred Horse to earn $1,085,760. I started forty five times. Won thirty two times, ten seconds, two thirds and one unplaced. I was Horse of the Year in 1948. I Was USA Champion Older Horse in 1951. I was foaled on April 11, 1945 at the legendary Calumet Farm in Kentucky. My sire was the immortal Bull Lea. My grand sire was Bull Dog. My dam (momma) was the beautiful Hydroplane. Her Sire was the great Hyperion.

He knew from his view that John Henry had won but wasn't allowed to call the winner when it was a photo finish even though he was correct that John Henry had won by a true whisker. I'm including Phil's great call of the race so you can experience this marvelous race again as well as hear one of Phil's inimitable wonderful calls.
