Tanya D (Tanya Dempsey) was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. She started Ballet classes at 6yrs, and due to an obvious Love for Music & Drama, her parents signed her into Classical Piano lessons and Drama Classes with Betty Anne Norton & Gaeity School.
Not one for Sports, She preffered to listen to music in her room, (all types, especially 80's R'n'b/Soul, singing along, while writing her own songs or Drawing), or else she'd watch Michael Jackson videos over & over till she got all the steps rite!.
At 14 she got her 1st Acting job in a R.T.E1 Radio play. As a teenager, the discipline required to be a serious Ballerina became clearer, and after a year of conflicting emotions, she stopped training.
She discovered Alcohol and Drugs, and at 17 was lead singer of Alternative Rock/Goth band 'The Flesh Temple', Playing well respected Dublin venues such as The old 'Attic' at White Horse, The Sadly missed 'Underground' (Doing regular support for 'Whipping Boy'), & Slatterys, before their split 2yrs later.
During final school years she was encouraged to further her Art skills and go to Art College. She moved out of home at 18, shortly after her parents Divorced, and studied Sound Engineering instead.
She immersed herself in the Arts World and the excessive partying that goes with it.
She spent all her free time writing songs/poetry & painting. She sang in different bands and through word of mouth got alot of work for several Theatre Co.s, doing sound & painting sets. Her gift of painting attracted commisions from private and corporate clients. She exhibited in Top Dublin Gallerys such as Kennedy Gallery & Davis Gallery.
Knowing that she'd never find real happiness untill she got her music together, Tanya went to study it in Ballyfermots Rock School.
In between terms she lived in Chicago for 3 months, in a poor predominantly AfricanAmerican neighbourhood and absorbed everything. Her love of R'N'B/HipHop deepened to a whole other level.
After college, Tanya became pregnant with her Son. She cleaned up her act and ventured out on the Singer/Songwriter circuit, performing her own songs on her keyboard. She received generous support from Singer/Songwriter Host Veteran Dave Murphy & Collaborated with Artists such as Rob Spectrum(Johnny Moys 'Headzinc' partner). In '04 she started taking her Emcee skills more serious after Youth Leader/Comedian Dean Scurry hooked her up with Dublin rap crew Urban Intelligence. In Feb '07 a Demo of 'Beauty 4 Gold' received U.K airplay within weeks of it being put up on Myspace & went straight to No.3 in The Irish Underground Charts. She Co-Hosted 'The Proof' mixtape with producer/artist CmX that summer. The pair also reached No.4 in the Irish download charts with single 'Breakthrough'. The Dance remix of the track is presently receiving heavy rotation on Dublins Dance 94.6fm.
'07 ended on a high note, As Tanya & Crew (C.m.X, Terawrizt & Hi-T), supported Slaine (LaCokaNostra) in Boston, performing alongside extended fam Shaymin on the nite. With Fellow Irish Hip Hopper Rob Kelly on the bill, The show, the first of its kind for Irish HipHop, received generous write ups in Papers such as Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and New Yorks Irish Voice.
Tanya also rapped live on Touch106.1fm. In April '08 She returned to Boston to play at The New England Urban Music Awards at Berklee College of Music And made another appearance on TouchFm. She is currently writing and recording her Debut Album 'Angel of Destruction', working with Tailored Beats from some of Americas most promising upcoming underground hiphop producers, while planning her next Stateside visit..
