About Me

.. When I was in grade school, everybody I knew who was musically conscious wanted to be the next Beatle. I wanted to be the next Louis Armstrong. As it turned out, I had neither the talent nor the pigmentation of my hero. But at least I knew what I liked. Years of trumpet lessons and bands later, I pretty much drifted away from playing music and became preoccupied with adult concerns like a wife, kids, jobs, houses, cars and loans. But that changed a few years ago when a friend who runs a local grassroots jazz group coaxed me to pick up the horn again. These days besides being a music journalist I also play in three jazz bands which span Kid Ory to Sinatra. I'm sure I'll never reach their stature, but you'd have to pry a horn or a mike out of my hands these days. Music, once again, is that big a part of my life.VISIT MY DAILY Jazz E-zine/blog/calendar at http://sunchronicle.ning.com/profile/RickFoster or my other jazz-related blog www.grassrootsjazz.blogspot.com
