About Me

A pretty regular 'Joe', really. I like to get to a Flames game now and then. Failing that, head over to Boston Pizza to watch it there (ME LIKE HOCKEY!). I'm a scientist working in the field of MRI/MRS, married a wonderful woman very recently. I am a free thinker devoted to altering theist perception of atheism, and to fighting religious conservatism - it has a negative impact on all of us.

You Are 85% Non Conformist
You're incredibly strange. And a weirdness like yours takes skill to cultivate!
No one really understands you. And you're cool with that. You just hope you never have to understand them! Are You a Nonconformist?

My Interests

Freedom from religion issues, philosophy, Texas hold'em poker, science/technology, HOCKEY, HOCKEY, HOCKEY!

I'd like to meet:

Richard Dawkins - one of today's great free thinkers, a man devoted to the public understanding of science and more recently to counter 'the dung being slung by the tongues of the ignorant fools who call themselves preachers' (MC Hawking). I can only attempt to have as much courage as this man.David Byrne - the intellegence put into his music cannot be denied or underestimated. Thankfully, he never stupes to writing 'just another silly love song' (take that, SIR Paul).Below are the asshats that I'd like to meet for their less than noble character.... Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly. I hope these people get what's coming to them...New on the asshat list! Bill Donohue, Dinesh D'Salsa- I mean, D'Souza

Music:

Talking Heads, most 80s music, mainstream and modern classical (Phillip Glass, Steve Reich, John Adams)

Movies:

Lawrence of Arabia, Ben Hur, Schwarzenegger and James Bond flicks (action flicks in general). Films with either a fantastic story, or overflowing with mayhem.

Television:

24 (can't wait for January), Heroes, old mystery series (Simon & Simon, Magnum P.I., Remington Steele), the Simpsons, Duckman (when's that coming out on DVD?) news, HOCKEY!

Books:

Anything by Richard Dawkins, Michael Shermer, Marc Hauser; Christopher Reich; Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time (get well soon, Robert! I want to read the next installment as soon as it's done!)

Heroes:

Richard Dawkins, David Byrne, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens,....

Tragedy in a Calgary home

We've had a terrible tragedy this week in Calgary, an incident of domestic homicide has left five dead in a home in the Dalhousie area, not far from where I work. Three adults, including Joshua and Al...

Einstein on god. A new private letter surfaces....

I was listening tody to this weeks The Things That Matters Most, where the topic was whether Jesus was real or myth. Of course, you can probably guess the position they took. As for myself, I thi...

Danger Man

My poor wife. I kept her up last night with my pseudosnoring (not quite snoring - more like heavy breaths. I do have mild sleep apnia.) She went to bed early. But... Finally! My set of Danger Man (as...

My recent absence....

Some may have noticed a significant lessening of vitriol in MySpace lately. Well, I had to take a little trip to the Butthole of the Univ- I mean, Toronto. Not a big fan of that city. It was a scienti...

I know these insipid characters dont define Christianity, but...

I'm dedicating this blog to The MalaniKai Show ® DARE TO SPEAK YOUR MIND (her moniker being a total misnomer - she has no respect for those that do unless it's "Praise Jesus!") and Jasmine Lynetta. No...

Is my home under terrorist attack?

The other day, my lovely wife Rhonda (blessedly, herself an atheist) was making dinner, nuking a spaghetti squash. She had pierced it with a fork, stuck it in the microwave and continued conversing wi...

Another hockey era ends....

Nothing can make you feel that you are getting older like the retirement of an athlete that you’ve watched since their rookie season. No exception is made for hockey. In 2005, it was the Moose, ...

This ones for David.....

David was correct when he pointed out that I live in a very secular country and I have never heard of anyone that has been discriminated against because of their irreligion in Canada. I would not say ...

All agog about NANOG

There are many out there that refuse to accept that the same science which is used to convict criminals can also be used to demonstrate conclusively that humans evolved from common ancestors with chi...

The Ten Commandments (were it a 80s "teen angst" film)

I first saw this on Pharyngula. I happen to love this movie (not a big fan of Charleton Heston’s acting ’ability’, but they sure knew how to give him great roles), and this slayed me...
