PHZ-Sicks (pronounced Physics) is an 20-year-old rap phenom from Northern VA. Born in Texas, he was raised half his life in Mississippi, where he lived with Grandmother and most of his family. During these times, he lived through below middle class and dealt with poverty that must people grown up in the hood is use to. The only thing that kept him occupied was music. Everything from blues, soul music to NY Hip hop (Big Daddy Kane) to West Coast (Too short, Ice Cube) to Southern bass (Luke). This started his love for music and also the Hip hop culture.
At 9, he moved to Woodbridge, VA with his mom, which was a mecca of New York, Philly, and people from all over. As he grew older, he started to write more music and get in to more things with friends. He began in to being a rebellious teen with selling drugs by the age of 13 without his mother ever knowing. He didn't stop until his Uncle was tragically murdered in Mississippi. Not trying to end up that way or be a burden to his mother, he changed his way and focus on something that was naturally good at, music.
Influenced by New York rap at the time (Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Canibus, DMX), Midwest (Bone Thugs, Do or Die, Twista), and Southern rap (Outkast, Goodie Mob, Pastor Troy), he developed his style. He started his rap career by battling various artists in the area and never listening. In the fall of 2002, he dropped his first mixtape with his cousin Twin in their group Damacus Steel. The mixtape sold over 200 from school to school in the Prince William County. He did it again the following year with an upcoming DJ from Florida named DJ Hailo. The mixtape was called "PHZ-Sicks and DJ Hailo presents Signs Mixtape." On Feb. 1st, 2004, he won Teens Count Teen Talent Show hosted by Rane of WPGC 95.5. He was the first rappers to ever win the competition. He is promoting his last "Sin City" mixtape which received rave reviews. The CD received over 800+ sales and still selling to this. He has also performed for majors such as Universal/Motown. Currently, he has a mixtape dropping in the Cali (the Bay Area), Northern VA, and is working on his new CD which will get most of its push in Philadelphia, PA, where he attends college.
