About Me

Hi! My name is Sabor and I am an Asian Leopard Cat. I live with four Bengal girls ( Miss Marbles, Mystery, Mango and Peaches) who are very cute! Bengals originated by a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a domestic cat. Then in 1983 TICA accepted the domesticated Bengal Cat for registration as a new breed and it was first exhibited at cat shows in 1984-1985. It acheived National Championship status in 1990-1991. Now a bit about me and my kind! The Asian Leopard Cat is a small spotted cat about the size of a domestic cat, but rather longer legs than the domestic cat. Their coloration is diversified throughout their range, from the pale tawny, to yellow red or gray on the upper part of the body with the under parts being white and spotted all over. Black or dark brown spots or rosettes cover the the sides of their body, with solid spots running down the legs and the tail. There are generally four dark stripes running down the forehead to the nape of the neck, breaking into short bands and elongated spots on their shoulders. Often there is one stripe running the length of the body. The length of the fur also differs according to their range, with those cats in the northern part having the longer, thicker coats than the southern counterparts or subspecies. The relatively small head has a short, narrow muzzle, a white chin, and two narrow black check stripes enclosing a white area. Two white and four dark stripes run up from the inner corners of the eyes towards the ears. The irises are a deep, golden brown to grayish color. The long rounded ears are dark on the outside, with a white central spot which exists to fool predators. The tail is spotted above witha few indistinct spotted rings near the buff colored tip. The Leopard cat is primarily nocturnal, and hunts both on the ground and in the trees. Like most wild cats, they swim well. Showing little aversion to human presence, the leopard cat can frequently be found close to villages and has been kept to control rodents by the villagers, much like the Geoffroy cat of South America. Most of their hunting is done at night, but they can be found in twilight, preying on rodents and other small mammals, birds, reptile, fish and insects. Like most small cats they are very agile but not to the degree as the Geoffroy cat. These cats are known more climbing than jumping. They have a tendency to go to the bathroom in water which is to hide their scent from predators. All but one of the sub-species of ALC's are considered endangered. They have been long sought after for their fur. Our family will also consist of the Geoffrey, the Safari which is a cross between the Geoffrey and a domestic cat. A bit more about the Geoffrey cat... Geoffroy St. Hilaire, is found throughout southern South America, east of the Andes. With individuals found inhabiting areas around the Straits of Magellan, along with the Puma it is the southerly of the world's wildcat species. However the body size of Geoffroy's Cat varies considerably throughout it's range-cats found in the northern areas are generally somewhat smaller than those found in Southern Argentina and Patagonia. The base fur coloration is also greatly dependent on location. Cats to the north have a ground color of reddish/yellow fur, while cats to the south have gray base coloration, with considerable variation between these extremes through other parts of its range. We have Geoffroys with color ranging from white with dark spots to black with black spots. The cat is marked by small black spots of equal stripped markings around the neck, chest and face. There are also Geoffroys that have spots like flowers (rosettes). In that there is a dark circle with litter color inside the circle. The undersides of the body and chin are lighter and the tail is covered with black bands and usually ending in a solid black tip. The backs of the ears are black with a central white spot except for the melanistic which do not have the white on the back of the ears. Melanistic (black with black spots) Cat are sometimes common to the north of the cats range. They are also more common in areas of dense forest. Geoffroy's Cats are associated with a wide variety of habitat types. However it appears to have a preference for thick cover and scrubby vegitation. Ths preference for dense ground cover enables Geoffroy's Cat to share much of its range with the Pampas Cat, which is more closely associated with open woodland and grasslands. Geoffroy Cats are also known to share areas with Margays, Ocelots, and Jaguars. Described as primarily nocturnal, late day and early morning activity have been observed in this predominantly solitary cat. Although spending much of its time hunting, foraging on the ground, there is much evidence to suggest extensive arboreal activity. Geoffrey's Cat often sleeps in the lower branches of trees. Mating activity has also been noted to take place above the ground and kittens at teh age of six weeks are able to climb well and are fearless of heights as well as many other animals that are larger than they are. Geoffrey's Cat have been described as being good swimmers and able to navigate fast and flowing waters.
