About Me
According to a survey of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung two third of all Europeans do not believe in the existence of Loonyland or consider it to be an illusion or invention of the government, one half of the last third consider it to be an abstract principle such as love or nuclear fission, the other half either a begonia glabra or an old man with a knapsack. They’re all right. Absurdistan, land of the limited impossibilities – Loonyland, home of Germany’s craziest club event, has many names. It all began at a time called the roaring nineties when three former students decided to create flourishing grounds. And indeed since then Cologne is a loonshit where nonsense flourishes, whenever the three masters of incompetence-compensation-competence promote stupidity and mumbo jumbo at their monthly event. Money famine is compensated by madness. Loonyland consists of three vital ingredients: electronic music, decoration, performances. Specifying the musical classifications is of no relevance; the sound has to be progressive, avant-garde and cutting edge to fit the profile. Besides well-known residents such as Tocadisco, Tube & Berger or Simon², Superstar-DJs who can rarely be heard in Cologne are booked with much effort and financial disregard. Up till now DJs like Tiga, Soulwax & 2ManyDJs, DJ Hell, Digitalism, Moby, Felix da Housecat, Boys Noize, Etienne de Crecy, Mr.Oizo, Switch, Agoria, Princess Superstar, Vitalic, Crookers and SebastiAn have put their needles on the records and into their arms. Decoration and performances are tailored to the particular motto which relates to political and social topics, e.g. US-presidential elections, doping, the universe, smooching or the letter Z. Always present: the Loonatics, a gang of performance-rascals, recruited from the wackiest party animals of Western Germany which are retreactively forced into overpriced costumes, in return paying us back with Sodom, Gomorrha and a blood alcohol level of 2.7. In addition, one can also find the whole Loonyland crew on the road all over Germany. Finally, the guys have a further party concept up their sleeve: Once a month national and international top acts, e.g. John Dahlbäck, Oliver Huntemann, The Hacker, Gregor Tresher, Dusty Kid, Karotte or Stephan Bodzin, present their impression of progressive dirty electro/techhouse sounds at the Dark Side of the Loon.
