RIP Chris Kangas

This page is in memory of fallen Jr. firefighter Christopher Kangas. Chris was a 14 year old member of the Brookhaven Fire Department when he was struck by a car and killed while riding his bike to the fire house. The burrow of Brookhaven and the State of Pennsylvania gave him a full fireman's funeral and death benefits entitled to families of firefighters who die in the line of duty. The federal government, however, denied him death benefits and a spot on the national fallen firefighters memorial stating that because he was a junior and not permitted to enter a burning building, Chris could not be considered a firefighter. For those of you who think the family is fighting for the money you couldnt be more wrong! It has been over 4 years and Chris' family is still fighting to win him the honor he deserves. The more support we get in this fight, the higher the chances of making this young boy's dreams come true. Messages and comments stating whether or not you believe juniors and apprentices should be included in the definition of a firefighter can make a huge difference.
