WHAT YALL KNOW ABOUT ENVY ?

Born Devante Rashaad Hunter in the notorious Northwest Houston housing projects Yale Village in Studewood, 20 year old ENVY knew growing up wouldn't be easy. Living with semi-serious heart condition he still found his escape-by playing football and running with his older cousin, a known neighborhood hard head. Birthed by a hard-working single mother, Envy often found himself at his Grandmother's house during the week to attend school. There he would witness the everyday struggles of the average young black man growing up in the early 90's. "Having to fight damn near everyday was a muthafucka, but i wasn't trippin though my cousin Jo-Jo was there and he wasnt going to let things get out of hand". Growing up in such a rough area where drugs,murder,and mayhem was the norm, Envyhad his first life altering experience when he seen a neighorhood teen, who was the friend of his uncle murdered.
"Man all I remember is my Uncle going crazy after the incident"."He had sent his little homie to the store, and when he was riding off on his bike these niggaz started shooting at each other". After seeing his mother and father split,and his eldest brother growing up on the other side of town he was often comforted by his grandmother. "Man that lady right there man to tell you the truth I can't tell you enough about her"."I will literally die for her". Envy states his early rap influences growing up was Eminem and Jay-Z."I remember all my brother Shoota use to jam was Eminem". He states he always loved 2pac and Biggie also. It was just something about all these artist that intrigued him as a teen to get his lyrical juices flowwing."The first album I ever heard though where i was just tripped the fuck out was "Get Rich Or Die Tryin"."Because man 50 brought back the gangster shit and I just drew an immediate liking to it".

"Envy states the first flow he ever did was in his brother's room on the computer."Hahaha,Yeah that was crazy man."My brother had some program on his computer that recorded,and he started beating on the desk mimicking that Tweet "Opps Oh My"."He had flowed first and I went after him,and we had burned it on a C.D. and jammed it when he use to drop me off at school".Shortly after that his brother left for college and he used music to feel the void.Then in 2005 while in the midst of his senior year in high school he dropped his first mixtape titled "My Story". The mixtape received a immediate buzz on the mixtape circuit by this new artist. It also caught the ear of classmate Kenneth Young aka Felony,who he joined numerous freestyles ciphers with in the high school cafeteria.

"It was Felony who went back and told his label mate Christopher Alvarez aka Risky, who was a current member of Houston's mixtape circuit recording group" Tha Choppaholics" about Envy. Shortly after, Envy would join Yellow Tape Muzik Group. This would lead to numerous mixtape appearances for the aspiring artist."Man I was blessed to get to do so much work,I got to work with GT Garza of SWAT,Felony,and mixtapes hosted by Slim Thug and Trae.Then came local talent showcases for Envy and his conrads.Performing shows on the Southside of Houton at Club 9th Inning,and Club Perfect Rack on the Northside of town.Eventually this branched out to them doing shows in San Marcus,Texas and other small towns through out Texas that would let them perform in the venue. Maybe it's the grimy scence from which he came,or the hurdles that life has thrown at him.It's something that drives this thriving young artist as he cleverly knits witty storylines,and delivers punchlines that will make any fan or rap veteran stop and listen.
