Through the years, Washington D.C. has been known for the unique sounds of the Go-Go culture. Which has led people to believe that is all that Chocolate City had to offer, but watch out world, Ge-Money’s sound is not the typical music that you would hear from the Mid-Atlantic (or what Ge-Money would call the “Mid-East†region).
Fortitude, ambition and creative business tactics are at the forefront of G.E. Dash’s career. Live It Up Records was founded in 2006 with Co-CEO Karlos “Kash Flo†Reynolds and Co-Founders Paul â€Unckle P†Britton and David “Fat Boi Fresh†Sumner. The enigmatic Live It Up Records CEO and entrepreneur spent the past few years designing an empire that will solidify his place in D.C. history, Hip Hop history and beyond.
Uptown Washington D.C. born, Franklin Commons (also known as P.G.T.) raised, George “Ge-Money†McClellan knew all to well at a very early age what the streets had to offer. While he experienced his share of trouble growing up in Northeast D.C., he was fortunate enough to escape anything that would cause him to wind up as another statistic of the “the ovenâ€.
Ge-Money, “the President of D.C. Rapâ€, has caused quite a stir not only in his hometown but across the country. And with the debut album “All About a Dolla", which will be released by his imprint Live It Up Records on December 18, 2007, the entire Hip Hop community will find out what the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area heads and his loyal and growing fan base have known for a while.
Since the release of the 2003 debut mixtape Morphine Music Vol.1, Ge-Money’s experiences have taught him invaluable lessons. In November of 03', it had seemed that the self proclaimed president of D.C. rap's career had come to an early end when he was caught in Kansas City, Missouri with 25 pounds of marijuana. Through a long fought case, and with the help of attourney David J. Frye, and without any snitching he came home a free man, but with 5 years probation.
Working with critically acclaimed producer “H.Potter†and Atlanta based label BRG music will be a key to his success. “You have to build relationships with your fans. It’s about being out on the road networking. You have to be up on your businessâ€.
His independently released single "Stay Sharp" featuring Unckle P, has been heard over the last month on Myspace from coast to coast resulting in generating a total of 20,000 plus plays and a fan base audience well above 10 thousand. In April of 2007, Ge-Money was a Myspace Featured Artist and also a top 10 artist in Washington D.C. in the rap and hip hop categories for 3 weeks.
Although much has been said about the critical state of Hip Hop in Washington D.C., Ge-Money represents an artist who doesn't mind going outside of his comfort zones to not only seek to get Hip Hop in love with the Nation’s Capital, but most of all, to get the rap world back in love with itself by opening up its ears, minds and hearts for MC's with something more to say; and who won't be stopped by any means in getting his message across to the masses. "As an artist I want people to expect the unexpected. Don't think for one minute that I am going to come this way all the time. I just hit rewind on my life & press play. I want people to listen to the album and expect the unexpected because this is only the beginning, this is my life. It’s only going to get better!"
