About Me

My name is Justin Carson. I'm a musician here in Morgantown, WV. I attended WVU as a percussion major in music education many many moons ago. I was fortunate enough to be there(1997-2001) right before it all started going down the tubes. I was lucky enough to study with and observe some incredible players and teachers there. I got to witness the world music program that Phil Faini built while he was director of percussion. I studied music theory, aural theory, rudimental/concert snare, tympani, marimba, piano, singing, various drumset styles, and steel drums. I got the chance to study with She-e Wu. I'd never seen anyone perform on the marimba like that. She taught me about shifting which is a great tool for a musician to have. Aaron Guidry is another incredible player. Here's a youtube clip of him from thirteen years ago. He was unbelievable to watch in person. My experience at WVU helped me realize I had a long long ways to go!!! Now eleven years later I still have a long ways to go but I've tried to play a little catch up since then. My main instrument would have to be drumset but I spend more time with the guitar nowadays. I want to understand harmony and melody not just rhythm. I've been playing drums for about 16 years. Some of the bands/people I've played drums for include Nokturnal, Solstice Band, 151 Numb, Stilllife, Dragonass, Myth of Est, Sabor Latino(aux. percussion/guitar also), WVU percussion ensemble, Ray Holman who is a steel drum composer/innovater from Trinidad, and right now I'm happy to be playing in a band called The Gear. I have some youtube feeds from May 31st at 123 Pleasant St. We had the privilege to open for Moon. What a good time. I've also been tinkering around with my home studio for about 7 years now. I enjoy laying all of the guitar, bass, drumset, aux percussion, looping/sequencing,and vocals that suck pretty bad. It's just fun to get lost in that process though. The two songs I have on here are examples of what I've done with my limited studio epuipment. I'm also teaching drumset lessons through Fawley Music as well. My next goal is to start a musical project. I have written some material on guitar and I'm going to collaborate with with one of my former bandmates who is a talented singer/songwriter. I've also been blessed with opportunity to play with many other talented musicians and I want them all to play on this project if they deem it worthy enough. I will be putting things on here as they unfold................................This is Aaron Guidry................
