Javier Alvarez de las Casas (aka Chwen) discovered Psytrance in 2001, and fell in love with the style. Through the sounds of psychedelic trance he found what he was looking for in music: magic - a new way of being in touch with his inner self. In 2004 after 3 years of attending underground parties he decided to buy his own decks. Since the beginning he displayed a lot of talent, and after only 4 months he was invited to play at the first psytrance festival in the city of Ciudad Victoria. After playing at a local party with Trancemission, a well-known progressive trance act from Mexico City, he was invited to form part of their record label called Nebular Hypott, now part of the Iboga Records Mexico.Since then he has played in almost all of the important festivals in Monterrey: Nebular Resonance 20/08/04, Darkinox 18/03/05, Crop Circles Connection 14/05/05, Mystik Illusions 1/10/5, Equinox 25/03/06, Iboga Records Mexico Label Party (Monterrey) 9/09/06 just to mention a few.He was a resident DJ at Café Iguana, the biggest trance nightclub in Monterrey, Mexico until traveling to Melbourne to bring some Mexican magic to the scene in Australia. He has shared stage with some of the biggest national and international acts in the world such as: Azax Syndrome, Autonomech, Blue MD, Bubble, CPU, Dark Soho, Decoy, Liquid Ross, Lost Keys, Menog, Mexican Trance Mafia, Mr Peculiar, Phyx, Psipsiq Jicuri, Psysex, Refer Decree, Shadow FX, Spoonbill, Rinkadink, Tenishia, Trancemission, Teen Sluts, Tron, Unos Fonks, among many others. He has been invited to play all over Mexico where he is well known and respected, and also in the United States.Whether he’s playing funky, fat progressive trance or magical and melodic psytrance, you can expect him to take you on a journey of mysticism, mischievousness and magic.Since arriving in Oz, Chwen’s adventures have taken him from the bush to the beach to the clubs (and even on a boat!). Since his debut at Interview’s Elements Earth Chwen has played in several major parties including Earthcore Festival, Interview’s Tranc3formers, Spiral Harmonics Maya Gathering, and RMIT University’s Rock The Vote just to name a few. He has also been featured on SYN FM radio playing a live DJ set. A portion of one of his DJ sets has been used in the soundtrack of an independent Australian short film to be released at film festivals in January 2008. He is currently working in the studio producing tracks with his partner and other collaborating artists, both national and international.
