About Me

My name is Laura Beasant.I've written music for as long as I can remember, but for a lot of years it wasn't much good. That's partly because I listened exclusively to the Spice Girls - so my early songs were cheeky send-offs to bad boyfriends I'd never had, with lyrics like "Boys are always rough, they think they're tough." Luckily I'd been brought up on music with a little more substance - artists like the Cranberries, Counting Crows and Bryan Adams - so eventually, my music became more substantial too. I explore every emotion by writing about it. Sometimes that works out. Sometimes it doesn't. If it works, I record the song for myspace. If it doesn't, I file it away, because you never know when you might need it. I'm the world's worst hoarder. That's why I write so much. I hoard my feelings away inside myself, turning them over and over in my mind, reliving the pain, until I find a way to put it to music.I hope you enjoy the results! :)To join the mailing list, email me at [email protected] with your name/nickname, and "mailing list" in the subject line.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: bebo.com/laurabeasantsongs
Band Members: I sing, play guitar and harmonica, and write the music and lyrics. I collaborated with Andrew Beasant on the music for 'Always'.
Influences: "I experience, and I learn what's wrong and right; I learn from books, but I learn more from life."I explore every new feeling and every new experience by writing about it, so lyrically I'm influenced by the things that happen to me everyday. Musically, I guess I'm influenced by the music I heard growing up and the stuff I'm listening to all the time, so that would be artists like Lene Marlin, Tracy Johnson, Spice Girls, Missy Higgins, Avril Lavigne, the Cranberries, Alanis Morrisette, Relient K, Schuyler Fisk, the Corrs, Kate Miller-Heidke and many others...
Sounds Like: Imagine an acoustic guitar combined with a love for harmonies, an Irish lilt, and occasionally a harmonica. OR, you could just press "play" and see for yourself...
