Darryll Brendon Smith is an extremely goal driven, ambitious singer/songwriter/actor, with hopes of sharing his music with the world! He describes himself as "humble yet assertive"!
The 33yr old scorpio has been entertaining almost all his life, and feels quite fortunate and blessed to have the opportunity to do what he does! Darryll was born in the beautiful Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago, into a very musical family. Trinidad is known for it's rich culture and ethnic diversity, and is home to the steelpan, calypso and one of the biggest carnivals in the world!
He fondly remembers as a toddler, singing along to and trying to mimic some of his moms' old Al Green and Shirley Ceaser records, which were usually on heavy rotation on a sunday morning.At the age of thirteen, he penned his first song with which he won his country's national junior song festival. The young entertainer continued writing and winning numerous local talent competitions along the way.In his early twenties, Darryll co-founded the band Vizion which produced several hit singles throughout Trinidad and some parts of the caribbean!
Through the years, the singer also fronted a couple of Trinidad and Tobago's top music bands, "Roots" and "Blue Ventures"!It soon became time to spread his wings as a solo artist though, and in the summer of 2002 Darryll auditioned for and attained a role in the German production of the critically accclaimed Broadway musical "The Lion King". There he covered two of the productions' leading roles, "Simba", and "Banzai". He's been living and working in Europe since! Quite the change from the life he was used to, but all the more exciting!!In 2007 Darryll landed the principal role "BRIT" in yet another acclaimed musical, "We Will Rock You"! There he played the role in Zurich for a year and was asked once again to play the "Rebel Role" in 2008 in Wien!While this ambitious entertainer enjoys the music theatre scene a great deal, he's first a singer/songwriter, and hence, is now devoting his time to writing, recording, and developing is own unique sound, so as to bring himself one step closer to completing his first studio album. Darryll has penned all his songs thus far, but is presently collaborating with other writers, so as to expand his lyrical style and content.Since living in Europe, the multi-faceted performer has met and worked with some pretty amazing musicians.
He's presently working with Piet Abele, a great
Engineer/Producer/Keyboardist, with whom he's co-produced most of his songs. Also Rudy Valentino... a wicked Guitarist/Producer, who's actually played on a couple Grammy award winning records, and of course a couple of Darryll's!! The singer also made quite a good friend and colleague in Photograher/Beatmaker Cassius Prudent. Together with Piet, they produced the track "Gotta Feelin". Darryll is very thankful for his many blessings and is quite optamistic about what's to come!
