8/19/2008 - DEADMANSWAKE is happy to introduce Dan "Troll" Gill as our new bassist! Dan has been in the Chicago metal scene for many years and brings loads of technical skill and creative energy to the DMW table. He's also a pretty cool guy. There will be pictures and new recordings soon!
The Bio of the DEAD - In 2005, guitarist/vocalist JP Soule & drummer Joe Dickie(under the name Encircled) were struggling with a storm of creative differences and a revolving door of band members. To make matters worse, a European band had already laid claim to the Encircled moniker, forcing the name change to the far more appropriate DEADMANSWAKE. After dismissing a vocalist and a bassist within days of each other, the future of the band looked bleak. Driven by a desire to break out into the Chicago music scene, JP & Joe recruited, of all people, former Encircled drummer, Perry Miller as the band's new bassist. Having previously split due to health issues, Perry was looking to stretch his creative muscles in a different way. The trio set out, writing music that was far more aggressive than Encircled's sound, yet equal parts more melodic and progressive. The sound attracted yet another former bandmate back into the fold, giutarist Chris Sampey. Chris had left the band some months before, dissatisfied with the direction the music was taking. The new songs, with their growing complexity and heaviness, excited him and a guitar team of unprecedented energy and strength was born. Though the band was becoming a force to be reckoned with, there was one crucial piece missing: a vocalist that could match the intensity of the musicians writing the songs. After a series of screamers and growlers that were invaluable to the band's growth but ultimatly not what they needed, Kryssie Ridolfi entered the picture. Her short...er...vertically challenged stature not slowing her down a bit, she stormed into a long line of potential frontmen and crushed the opposition in just a few auditions. Her bluesy, smooth hard rock vocals proved to be the perfect counterpoint to the driving, progressive metal that had become the signature of DEADMANSWAKE. With no hestation, the newly energized quintet entered the studio and hit the local music scene with a resounding crash. DMW continues to play show after hard-hitting show, winning new fans at every turn and proving that they stand ready to take on Chicago, then the world, with a ferocious, bombastic attitude and a drive worthy of the city they proudly represent.
