Where's the coffee?

About Me

I am 44 years old, a registered nurse who has recently left the hospital for a position in home health nursing (so far I love it!). I have no children, one cat, and I have been blessed with a terrific husband who is smart, funny, considerate (he treats me like a queen), and easy on the eyes. We moved into our new home exactly one year ago today (December 3). We live in a quiet, beautiful suburb of Pittsburgh, close enough to go "dahntahn" on a moments' whim, yet far enough removed from the inner-city hustle and bustle.

My Interests

Cooking, music, good movies, cats (big and small). I like dogs too, but wouldn't want to own one. I love flowers, and my husband and I are working on landscaping our new home. Lucky for me, he possesses the proverbial green thumb.

I'd like to meet:

People with similar interests.

Music:

My favorites are smooth jazz and smooth r&b. I do like some classic country (Conway Twitty, Hank Williams), showtunes (I've seen Phantom of the Opera about 8 times and never tire of it), and especially enjoy Yanni and Josh Groban. Rap and heavy metal are at the bottom of my list.

Movies:

The Ten Commandments, Saving Private Ryan, The Chronicles of Narnia, Braveheart, and Schindler's List. I also enjoy some classics such as All This and Heaven Too, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, My Favorite Wife, and Bringing Up Baby (to name a few). Cary Grant was a wonderful comedic actor.

Television:

I really don't watch too much TV except for the news.

Books:

Between me and my husband, we have a fine collection of cookbooks. It might interest some of you to know that my husband is a published writer of several technical computer books, some of which have been published in 5 or 6 different languages.

Heroes:

My husband, who has overcome several self-inflicted obstacles to transform himself into an absolutely wonderful human being, and my mother, who has raised 7 children and lived to tell about it ;-)

Things I Can Do Without

I've been wracking my brains these past few days trying to come up with another topic to post on my blog.  While working this last weekend in what seemed to be a never-ending downpour, I muttered...

New Year's 2007

Gosh, it's 2007 already.  The older you get, the quicker time flies by.  I remember when we celebrated the Bicentennial and thinking that the year 2000 will never get here, or at least that&...

Updated list of Christmas gifts

After waking up at 10AM this morning and getting a couple of cups of coffee in me (believe me, you don't want to talk to me until I've had a couple), my husband and I gathered in front ...

Ok, so we couldn't help ourselves...

So it's Christmas Eve and we just couldn't help ourselves.  I let my husband open one of his Christmas presents tonight, and apparently, I done good.  I bought him a Canon DV camcorder and h...

My new job

Ok, so I am a nurse.  I've spent the last 10 years working med/surg in the hospital setting and went as far as I wanted to go (ICU is not for me).  I recently took a job in home care and my ...

Christmas

Maybe I'm looking through the cynical eyes of an adult, but Christmas just doesn't seem to hold the same magic for me anymore.  When I was a kid, Christmas was mysterious and magical and was...

Going to try this "blog" thing....

My husband, the computer geek that he is, has his own website and frequently posts interesting tidbits on his blog, so I thought I'd take a whack at it myself.  I don't yet know what it is I will...
