SocaSyndicate was established in 1999 as a “Soca Crew” going to soca fetes and showing support for their culture, and love for the music, and whose members at the time were called The GramaZone Crew. It was also a means for the founder Kester Duncan aka “Stone”, to expose his ability as a singer and songwriter under the Syndicate name. For Stone, his first desire was for singing, which he got an opportunity to do after moving to Canada at the age of 14, singing at various school concerts and talent shows. He then went on to write his own music, mostly R&B, but in his mind he knew that soca was his passion, hence his crew SocaSyndicate. In the summer of 2005 his desire for development grew and it was at this time that he got together with one of his close friends Anderson Morris aka “Kuskie” and they began molding SocaSyndicate into something…........ Phenomenal! Kuskie’s love for music had him taping radio shows and listening to the various dj’s "mixing and trixing". In 1999, after befriending the group known as Associate Degree Sound System, he continued to be awed by the way they dj’ed and commanded the crowd, making it theirs thus becoming his passion. After moving to Canada in 2001, he was appalled by the fact that soca music was hardly played on the local radio stations, and his desire to spread soca music and keep its culture alive grew even more. His collaboration with “Stone” came at a time when his hunger to expand his boundaries deepened. SocaSyndicate is in essence an organization that seeks to promote soca music on an international as well as a national level, creating awareness of and a love for the genre. The name has however since been changed to the SocaSyndicate Band signifying a change in the direction of the group as a whole, which also consists of the ‘Syndicate Smoothies’, the female supporters as well as the ‘Gramazone Crew’, the male supporters. That is to say, the focus will not simply be on soca music but will include different genres, as well as singing and songwriting. As a Band SocaSyndicate considers themselves to be entertainers, not simply Dj’s……….SOCA SYNDICATE BAND…Da Definition
