A lot of dance, trance, techno like Kylie/ Dannii Minogue, Miss Kittin and The Hacker, The Chemical Brothers, Paul Oakenfold, Tim Deluxe, iio, Armand Van Helden, Basement Jaxx, Benny Benassi--ah, the list could go on. I like a lot of mixed cd's--keeps me from getting bored. Old-school KROQ too- everything from the 80's like Depeche Mode (my all time favorite) to The Smiths, The Cure, English Beat. I love freestyle music too. Back in high school, I listened to a lot of Nirvana, The Offspring and bands like that. You can ask me who Etta James, Lasgo, Stevie B, and Nine Inch Nails are, and I'd be able to tell you. That should best sum up my music tastes! :)
Baz Luhrman movies (Romeo and Juliet, Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge). Life is Beautiful is also a fantastic movie. We shouldn't take anything for granted in life, and the movie teaches u that. Oh god, favorite movies is too hard for me to think about. Monsoon Wedding is a good one too- comedy and drama rolled into one crazy Indian wedding! I watch all kinds of movies, from Beavis and Butthead the movie to indie-thinky-think types. I'm not really into those gangsta movies (but I like some types, like Goodfellas and Casino). I'm pretty flexible when it comes to movies. Dirty Dancing is a sick, guilty pleasure for me- a cheesy classic never goes out of style. 80's movies- Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Beuehler's Day Off.
I was an English major so a really detailed list would list would bore the hell out of everyone. I tend to read mostly classic literature, drama, and poetry. Some favorites (a very shortened list, in no particular order): "The Stranger"- Albert Camus, Pretty much everything by Shakespeare, "Like Water for Chocolate"- Laura Esquivel, "Rain of Gold"- Victor Villasenior, Most Sandra Cisneros books, "Rebecca"- Daphne Du Maurier, Everything by Edith Wharton (one of my all time favorite writers). Dorothy Parker- The Complete Stories, "The Handmaid's Tale"- Margaret Atwood, "She's Come Undone"- Wally Lamb, "Passing"- Nella Larson, "The Jungle"- Upton Sinclair, "The Lovely Bones"- Alice Seabold, "The Virgin Suicides" -Jefferey Eugenides.
My mom is one of my greatest heroes (heroine, I guess). She raised two girls all by herself and always managed to give us the love and support we needed. Still does- I luv u mom! Female writers like Dorothy Parker and Edith Wharton also inspire me- they wrote about the struggles of women and how they dealt with living in societies that often placed oppressive social stigmas on them. Reading these stories makes me appreciate the society I live in today, and reminds me that we need to continue to support those people who are misunderstood, misrepresented, or considered "different" by mainstream society
