Fact: Small dogs such as poodles and Pomeranians etc. Have bitten more people then Pit Bulls in 2006. Fact: 95% of where pit bull bites occur and are reported are in areas that have a high crime rate. Fact: 98% of pit bull attacks that are reported in the news are in upscale suburban areas. (Where it is very rare that someone is bit) Fact: The American Canine Temperament Testing Association is an organization that titles dogs for passing its temperament test. The test consists of putting the dog into a series of unexpected situations, some involving strangers. The dog fails the test if it shows any signs of unprovoked aggression or panic around people. In 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, the "Pit Bull" (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire and Staffordshire Bull) out performed the Golden Retriever, a breed noted for its gentle temperament.Of all dogs that take the test, 77% on average pass. But among Pit Bulls who take the test, 95% on average pass--one of the highest passing rates of all breeds.
Some of the breeds that scored lower include Shar-pei, 69.4 percent; Dachshunds of various types (average) 75.2 percent; Lhasa Apso, 70.8 percent; Scottish Terrier, 62.1 percent; Silky Terrier, 68.8 percent; Skye Terrier, 37.5 percent, and Toy Poodle, 79.1 percent.
Fact: 92% of Pit Bull attacks only occur when the dog is provoked or being mistreated.
Please contact your local congressman and tell them that this is wrong what there are doing and how they are labeling pit bulls - If they were doing this to humans there would be a civil war and riot.
