About Me

Mera naam Talya hai. "When am I not myself?" I enjoy/appreciate most forms of ART. Basically I'm an aesthete. I run the Sunday Art Workshop Series, info at talyacreates.com. There is a 23% chance that I am drinking Chai at this very moment. You will find me consuming (and often cooking) Indian food and fine sushi, or discussing current affairs. It is possible that 50% of my wardrobe is composed of black clothing and warm colors. I really enjoy fresh air and fresher water. I like to experiment: with my vocabulary in particular. If we ever correspond you'll eventually notice I'm a fan of the ellipsis... I hate descriptor words including but not limited to: laid back, home grown, romantic, kid at heart, etc. I'm not as judgemental (or profound) as I seem once you get to know me...

My Interests

Curating, assembling, cleaning (yes I'm OCD, ask my friends), driving (again, a control freak), postcards, galavanting, well placed/well timed quotes, irony, Contemporary Art, museums, foreign cinema, Rhythm Cafe, Buddah Bar, Paris, India, travel, climbing mountains, psuedo-intellectualizing, playing house, conversating, poker, monopoly, Scattagories, epiphanies, writing. Languages, dreaming, NETFLIX, Scrabble, Jumbles, CHAI, decaf anything. Not to mention the occasional fit of hysterical laughter with friends. I tend to be preoccupied with the number 23 and am overly interested in Greenville, SC. In truth, I despise overly noisy and smokey clubs, bars, or social settings.

I'd like to meet:

I respect: motivation, adaptation, innovation, compassion, confidence, being real, multi-tasking, brilliance, neologism, benevolence, and in rare cases fuedalism.I mesh well with: People who think, the emotionally available, cliche quoters, scofflaws, superstitious superficial supernaturalists, closet optimists, people whose reason(s) escapes them. People who: quote obscure references in mixed company, use dead languages, perport things, have a strong work ethic, exclaim latin name of plants in passing, speak in idioms or rhyme, have excellent grammar or manners, love scientific/rational thought, or are masters of their own domain. Being an inventive cook is also a plus. People who make up words like strawfalactics, scooby dubious, and beardier are alright! Also super-villans are noteworthy and often spurious.

Television:

I'm that person who is annoyed by the TVs in restaurants and am not shy about insisting they turn the volume down, if not off. I also hate commercials - I mute them. When I was a kid and TV was more appropriate: Reading Rainbow, The Smurfs, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Dr. Who, Square One (remember MathNet?!), Animaniacs, The Simpsons, Deep Space 9, 123 Contact. However, I can definately tolerate the following if in passing: Law & Order: SVU, Lost, Family Guy, House, Life, Journeyman, Pushing Daisies, Battlestar Galactica. Oh, and static that preaches gospel and forces me to confront flesh eating demons... psych!

The Black Ghosts

This is quite pssibly the coolest video I've seen recently. I also give much props to the reference of Edward Hopper's famous (and oft parodied) painting "Night Hawks". Have fun watching it!...
