Well Preety Much Everything
The band's vocalist Anthony Green, left after the release of their first EP and later joined the band Circa Survive. A public nationwide auditioning process then commenced. Beau Burchell stated in an interview, "The main things that we are looking for now, is someone that does not do drugs, someone who can actually sing live, and someone who is good looking and fun to get along with. Oh, and they have to have a really dry sense of humor, because the rest of us do." [1] After this public auditions process, and several guest vocalists on demos, Cove Reber was announced as their new permanent lead singer.
Bassist Zach Kennedy also parted from the band early on, leaving over personal issues, and to focus on his art career. He went on to play bass in Ashlee Simpson's band, but left her band in 2005. He was replaced with Chris Sorenson.
During 2005, the band toured the United States and became part of the Warped Tour. A video to the song "Bury Your Head" recorded during their tours has also been shown on Fuse. The band is currently signed to Capitol Records, and released their full-length debut on September 26, 2006 which sold over 35,000 copies in its first week. They were formerly on their own indie record label Death Do Us Part where they released their first EP.
They are currently performing in the international Taste of Chaos tour, and will be on tour in the USA with Bleeding Through and Senses Fail, starting November 24.
In 2003 Thrice signed up with Island Records and released The Artist in the Ambulance, which featured more structured songs while keeping true to their hardcore influences. The band's recent work has noticeably diverged from its metal and hardcore roots. In 2005 a DVD outlining their entire career thus far was released under the title If We Could Only See Us Now. The package was named after a lyric from So Strange I Remember You, a song from Thrice's early punk days that was later redone by the band to reflect their matured sound. It included a CD with live tracks from the Apple Store and various B-sides. Thrice released their fourth full-length album, Vheissu, on October 18, 2005. Vheissu features a departure from their previous sound by introducing electronics and new instruments ? namely a Rhodes Piano ? that they hadn't used before this album. Another notable sound of the album is the lesser amount of a metal/hardcore style of guitar playing, and more of a variation in the vocals. The album as a whole is very emotional and haunting in both its message and its harmonies. Vheissu is hailed by critics as far more mature album than Thrice's previous records. Many of its lyrics reflect Biblical, Christian and spiritual themes.
The band embarked on a fall tour (October 4–November 21, 2005) in support of Vheissu with Underoath, The Bled, and Vedera, beginning at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada and finishing at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, California. They appeared in early 2006 as part of the multi-band Taste of Chaos tour. Touring in the UK with Coheed and Cambria garnered the group many more fans, as well as providing a basis for a new live video of The Earth Will Shake.
The band released "Red Sky" on March 17, 2006 as their second single from Vheissu, following "Image of the Invisible". The video was directed by Tim Hope (Coldplay - "Trouble", Jimmy Eat World - "Sweetness").
Dustin Kensrue is currently recording a solo album and touring select east and west coast cities in late July/early August. He has signed with Equal Vision Records, and is producing the album himself with the help of Thrice guitarist Teppei Teranishi as engineer.
Teppei Teranishi is in a side project with Chris Jones called Black Unicorn
Rock is a form of popular music from the mid 20th century which typically features a vocal melody (often with vocal harmony) that is supported by accompaniment of electric guitars, a bass guitar, and drums, often with a strong back beat. Keyboard instruments such as organ, piano, or synthesizers are often used in many types of rock music. While brass and woodwind instruments, such as saxophone were common in some styles in earlier development of rock, they are less common in the newer subgenres of rock music since the 1990s. The genre of rock music is broad, and its boundaries loosely-defined, with related genres such as soul and funk sometimes being included in the definition of the term.
A major formative influence on rock was rock and roll, and rockabilly. In the 1960s, as British rock developed, the term "rock music" became popular. With the "British Invasion" this reinvigorated musical style spread back to the United States, and became an international cultural phenomenon with considerable social impact. Rock has evolved into a multitude of highly-varying styles with widespread popularity.
Dance music is a style of popular music commonly played in dance music nightclubs, radio stations and shows and raves. The term dance music is usually used for more commercial forms of Electronic dance music. However, both dance music and electronic dance music are made electronically for dancing. Styles include house, jungle, hip house, and many others. Associated with dance music are usually commercial forms that may not easily be pidgeonholed, for example "The Power" by Snap! and "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by C+C Music Factory. Those tracks are characterised by mixing dance music and hip hop. The chorus usually derives from disco music, the music itself consists mainly of very danceable hip hop beats.
As of the start of the 2000s, techno increasingly introduced more sub-genres and crossover incarnations. Examples include the sometimes melodic, vocal-friendly electro-techno style of Sven Väth (Germany), the harder styles of Carl Cox (Britain), the "Swechno" of a number of Swedish artists. Minimal techno by artists such as Richie Hawtin (Canada), Ricardo Villalobos (Chile) and Magda (USA), while Alex Smoke heads up the British element. The scene is currently enjoying a renaissance which is centered around Berlin, but the minimal sound is on the rise with many nights now in Ibiza (arguably the centre of dance music around the globe) (whether it be minimal techno or minimal house). With notable nights including Sven Väth’s own “Cocoon†which regularly showcases the talents of Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos, as well as DC10’s Circo Loco, and increasingly Mauro Picotto’s (Italian) – Meganite. This represents a change in direction as from the boshing hard techno that the scene is usually asscociated with.
Tech-trance is a popular reconvergence, from the late 1990s through the mid 2000s, of trance and techno. One of the style's proponents, Dutch producer/DJ Tiësto, held the #1 spot on a Top 100 DJ Poll for three years straight. British DJ Eddie Halliwell, Dutch DJ Sander Van Doorn, and producers Alter Ego, Roman Flugel, Audion, Carl Craig and Vitalic, are among the other prominent figures in the scene.
