DJ Supersede Short Bio:
Classically trained in percussion from a very young age, Supersede has been blessed with an ear for music and has perfected a style that can only be described as unique and energetic. With a passion for house and electro, mixed with a rich heritage in rock and hip-hop, there appears to be no crowd or venue that he can’t entertain.
Andrew Beckwith, a.k.a. DJ Supersede was born in Daytona Beach, FL and was raised in probably the most unlikely environment that could produce a Miami-based DJ: a horse training facility in the suburbs. Although it may seem far fetched, Daytona had a fairly balanced music scene with the presence of such iconic dance music clubs as 600 North located in his backyard, where MTV hosted a large percentage of their spring break events during his younger years in the late 1980’s and early 90’s.
After leaving Daytona to pursue his education in music at the University of Florida, Andrew Beckwith discovered his love of DJ-ing through an extension of his already prominent percussion back round. An instantaneous love for the craft was born, and he hasn’t looked back since. Mentored by DJ Nick Morrison from Orlando, FL, Supersede was able to form a bond that has produced one of Miami’s biggest up and coming video and production duos, which has been featured next to the likes of Johnny Vicious, Steve Aoki, Magic Mike, Junkie XL, and John Digweed, in venues like the House of Blues in Orlando, Mannequins at Disney’s Pleasure Island in Orlando, Pangaea at The Hollywood Hard Rock, Live with Vince Neil at Dr. Feelgood's in West Palm Beach, B.E.D., Cameo/Vice, and Dek23 in Miami Beach, just to name a few. Supersede & Nick Morrison have been seen playing exclusive events with Christian Audigier, Ocean Drive, The Flamingo South Beach, 944 Magazine, Best Buddies Organization, and many more. Supersede and Nick Morrison are Miami’s only true all-in-one Video DJ Residents, editors, and remixers.
Supersede recently finished as one of the top six finalists in a field of over 400 entries in the Denon Mix and Mash Competition in early 2007. Supersede was also a finalist in The Ellen DeGeneres Show’s DJ Search in 2005 which featured numerous talented actors & artists from around the globe. Supersede’s was also featured as a regular guest on The Perimeter, a weekly radio show on Kiss 105.3 in Gainesville.
This is a career choice that requires a passion, motivation, and style, all of which Supersede isn’t lacking a bit of. When asked who influences him he said, “Everyone around me that I get the chance to listen to when I'm out and about. You can't just have 1 person to look up to, because you have to respect what a lot of great DJs are doing every night, along with what a lot of amazing bands have done over the past 50 years. We have to keep good music alive for the next generation.â€
